Ola Electric leads in volume, but Bajaj and TVS are closing in fast

India’s electric scooter market continues to expand with better options and growing infrastructure. Based on SIAM’s (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) fiscal year-end data, here are the top 5 electric scooter brands from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025:

    Hero Vida

    Period

    Units Sold

    FY24

    19,805

    FY25

    58,503

Hero MotoCorp’s Vida range of electric scooters saw an impressive 195.40% YoY (Year-over-Year) growth. Despite this, it is still quite far behind the other brands in this list. With the recent reduction of the Vida’s price, the e-scooter offers excellent value for money. While there’s no deal-breaking shortcoming from the scooter itself, Hero will have to massively expand its dealer and service reach, if it were to make any reasonable impact in the EV space.

    Ather Energy

    Period

    Units Sold

    FY24

    1,07,894

    FY25

    1,55,405

Ather’s 44.03% growth is fueled by a diverse product lineup, including the 450S, 450X, and limited-edition 450 Apex. In fact, Ather opened the new financial year with the launch of the Rizta back in April 2024. It was a big departure from what the brand was always known for - sleek, sporty, electric scooters. However, the Rizta retained the core strengths of the brand - consistent quality and performance. This along with the growing Ather Grid charging network have gone a long way in enhancing the brand’s sales. Also note that the Rizta is the most affordable Ather scooter.

    TVS Motor

    Period

    Units Sold

    FY24

    1,89,896

    FY25

    2,72,605

TVS posted a 43.55% YoY growth, with its iQube series available in Base, S, and ST variants - catering to diverse customer needs. The scooter’s neutral styling, consistent real-range, and reputation for reliability continue to make it a go-to choice for EV buyers, especially in metros and tier-2 cities. TVS’s extensive (and quickly expanding) dealer and service network play a big part in its sustained growth.

    Bajaj Auto

    Period

    Units Sold

    FY24

    1,25,894

    FY25

    2,59,961

Bajaj recorded a massive 106.5% growth in FY25. The Chetak’s classic styling, robust build, and dependable performance have resonated well with buyers. In December 2024, the brand also launched the 35 series offering better range, bigger underseat storage, more features, among others, thereby making it a much more wholesome electric scooter than before. The Chetak also enjoys the sheer brand recall as it is the modern, eco-friendly avatar of the iconic petrol-powered Chetak that once kick-started affordable personal mobility in India.

    Ola Electric

    Period

    Units Registered

    FY24

    3,44,141

    FY25

    3,29,948

Do note that Ola Electric is not part of SIAM, and this is the registration data that has been taken from the Vahaan portal. That said, Ola retains its crown as the highest-selling EV brand by volume, despite a 4.12% YoY decline. The Ola scooter portfolio includes the S1 X, S1 Air, S1 X+, S1 Pro, and the S1 Pro+. The wide product range at different price points as well as frequent hefty discounts have helped in the overall sales. However, apart from service-related concerns, recent bottleneck in terms of registration may have influenced the slight dip in sales.
