The SR Max 250 offers better performance and is more feature-packed than the Keeway maxi-scoot

Aprilia SR Max 250

Aprilia has brought out a new iteration of its SR Max250 maxi-scooter for the Chinese market. Called the HPE, this platform was initially developed in collaboration with Chinese two-wheeler manufacturer Zongshen.

Well, to begin, credit where it’s due, as Aprilia has absolutely nailed the design of the SR Max250 HPE. The scooter features a contemporary Italian design which is always a perfect combination of futuristic, butch and edgy. While the apron of the scooter showcases a sharp look, this aesthetic goes well with the rounded underbelly and the angular tail section. Combine this exquisite design with Aprilia’s snazzy livery, and the result is an absolute eye-candy.

Underneath the skin lies a 250cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces an impressive 25.96PS and 22.5Nm. In comparison, the Keeway Vieste 300 gets a 278cc heart that produces 18.9PS and 22Nm. While the torque figures of both the scooters remain the same, the higher power output would help the Aprilia scoot with much better outright performance.

The SR Max250 HPE is also feature-loaded as it comes equipped with an anti slip regulator, traction control, two ride modes, 7-inch TFT display with Bluetooth, LED lighting and an adjustable windshield. It also gets a massive 15-litre fuel tank. The generous underseat storage can fit a full size helmet too, thus enhancing its sporty-tourer cred.

This Aprilia scooter gets a conventional telescopic fork with dual shock absorbers. Braking duties are shared between a 260mm front floating disc and a 240mm rear disc. Bosch dual-channel ABS is standard.

Priced at 26,800 Yuan, which is equivalent to INR 3.16 lakh, it is highly unlikely that this scooter will find its way to our shores anytime soon. While Aprilia does make other maxi-scooters in Europe, including the SR GTs shown last year at EICMA 2021, these scooters aren’t likely to come to our shores either.

Currently, we have to be content with the maxi-styled SXR 160 or the sport SR 160. However, if you expand your horizon and look at other brands, you could take a look at the Keeway Vieste 300, Sixties 300i, Yamaha Aerox 155, or the extremely premium BMW C 400 GT.
