Royal Enfield finally introduced its adventure tourer- Himalayan today in a press conference. It took 5 years to develop this piece of art and the bike has been tested on various terrains with CS Santosh as the rider before finalisation. Also, Siddhartha Lal took the machine on the Himalayas and tested it to the core. Built for extreme versatility, the Himalayan was showcased along with its accessories such as waterproof bags, saddle bags, warm thermal gloves etc. Details on pricing are yet to be disclosed by the company as both the officials confirmed to bring the bike at the dealerships by March 2016 with its finalised pricing.
As of now, Royal Enfield will not export the Himalayan, which will make the machine an exclusive product for the Indian fans. The Royal Enfield Himalayan will come equipped with an all new LS410 motor that is a 411cc, single cylinder, SOHC overhead cam engine with a counter balancer. Also, the machine can run up to 10,000 kms without changing the oil. Churning out a maximum power of 24.5bhp at 6,500 rpm, the engine generates a peak torque of 32Nm between 4,000-4,500 rpm. Apart from this, the company is also working on a new 750cc engine that is most likely to come next year. Other key features supporting the Himalayan are:
- Ignition System: TCi, Multi-curve
- Clutch: Wet, Multi-Plate
- Lubrication: Wet Sump with Oil-Cooler
- Engine Start: Electric only
- Fuel Supply: Carburetor with throttle position sensor
- Chassis: Half-Duplex split cradle Frame
- Front Suspension: 41mm telescopic forks, 200 mm wheel travel
