Piaggio India, the Indian arm of the Italian auto manufacturer, has established itself as a scooter manufacturer. The Vespa scooter is doing well and Piaggio has managed to sell some 52,000 units of the scooter, which is quite good figures for a premium scooter, however Piaggio is targeting bigger number this time as they have launched a new sportier variant called the Vespa VX. Meanwhile, there are reports coming in that the Piaggio India is gearing up to launch a new scooter in India called Vespa S. This new scooter will come with a new square headlight, which gives it a distinctive loook with the signature classic design.
However, the ‘S’ is largely based on the Vespa LX and features the same 125cc 4-stroke, three-valve, single cylinder, air cooled engine, which is capable of producing 10.06 PS at 7500 RPM and 10.6 Nm@6000 RPM. The 125cc engine will be mated to an efficient Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT). The report further suggests that Vespa S will be priced close to the Vespa VX, which is around Rs 71,000 (ex-showroom). While the expected launch has been slated for the upcoming festive season, most probably in September, 2013.
