Ola Electric S1 Gen 3 Scooter Range: What Are The Upgrades From Gen 2?

The new generation scooters get a lot of new features and a redesigned powertrain

Quick Highlights

  • Ola Electric launched the Gen 3 electric scooters in India last week

  •  The Gen 3 scooters now get a lot of upgrades over the Gen 2

  • The scooters will come equipped with the newest software ‘MoveOS 5’

Ola Electric recently launched the newest generation of its S1 electric scooter range for the Indian market. The new S1 range now has four models: S1 X, S1 X Plus, S1 Pro and S1 Pro Plus and the range is now priced from Rs 79,999 to Rs 1,69,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru). The updated S1 range now gets a redesigned powertrain, new technology and safety features. Here’s an overview of what the new S1 range gets over its predecessors:

Mid-Mounted Motor:

The Ola S1 range now gets a new mid-mounted motor with an integrated MCU (Motor Control Unit) and is now chain-driven. Ola electric has claimed the motor to be 5 times more reliable than conventional motors. The motor is now integrated with the battery pack.

New Battery Technology:

The Ola S1 Pro Plus scooter from the S1 range gets a 5.3kWh capacity battery pack with a claimed range of 320km. The 5.3kWh battery pack is made up of Ola’s ‘4680 Bharat cell’ that is bigger in size than the conventional cell but is also more energy dense by 10%. The BMS (Battery Management System) is also integrated into the battery itself now.

Brake-by-wire Technology:

The Ola S1 range now is equipped with brake-by-wire technology that eliminates the need of physical brake cable in the scooters. The brake-by-wire tech registers the input from the rider through a sensor and identifies the braking pattern while determining to brake effectively. It also controls the motor behaviour under braking conditions. The Ola S1 range now gets single-channel ABS (Anit-lock Braking System) for three scooters in the range while the S1 Pro Plus gets dual-channel ABS as standard.

MoveOS 5:

The Ola S1 range will get the newest MoveOS 5 which is Ola’s inhouse developed operating system. The Move OS 5 will add features like a DIY mode that lets you adjust power, speed, regen and throttle sensitivity. It gets a new display theme called ‘Bharat Mood’. The MoveOS 5 also gets SOS alerts, Smart-Park feature, Road-Trip Mode and many more features.
