Kinetic DX Vs Kinetic DX Electric: Compared In Pics
The scooters look quite similar but very different underneath!
Kinetic recently launched the DX EV, an electric take of the iconic Kinetic Honda DX 2-stroke scooter. It is offered in two variants: DX and DX Plus. While both the variants are quite appealing, we compare the Plus variant with the 2-stroke DX. The DX Plus EV gets a retro design that is quite similar to the iconic Kinetic-Honda DX and comes with a lot of modern tech. It is priced from Rs 1,17,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Here’s a detailed comparison of both the scooters in images:
Design
The old Kinetic-Honda DX came with a three-pod headlight with a rectangular headlight in the middle and indicators at either side . On the other hand, the DX EV comes with a rectangular LED headlamp in the middle but the indicators are K-shaped and perpendicularly fitted. The new DX EV also gets the same alloy wheels but with three spokes, opposed to the inscribed triangle design of the OG scooter.
The electric DX Plus closely follows its predecessor’s design with a similar silhouette. Both the scooters get a pointy front fender design, the sharp bodylines that run across the entire length merging into the rear indicator. Mimicking the old DX, the DX EV too gets the dual air-vents near the floorboard and the iconic three slot body panel near the rear branding. The one thing we do miss is the spare wheel mounted at the rear.
Engine/Motor Specifications
The Kinetic Honda DX came with a 98cc, air-cooled, two-stroke, single-cylinder engine that produced 7.7PS at 5,600 rpm and 9.80Nm at 5,000. It returned a claimed mileage of around 40kmpl and a fuel-tank with a capacity of 6 litres.
The Kinetic DX EV+ is driven by a hub-mounted electric motor with a peak power output of 4.8kW. It gets a 2.5kWh battery pack, from which it gets a claimed range of 116km . The new e-scooter also gets an onboard charger, and can be plugged in directly to a socket with a retractable charging cable that is housed in the front apron. The scooter can reach a claimed top speed of 90kmph.
Underpinnings
The Kinetic Honda DX came with 10-inch wheels wrapped in 100-section tubed tyres. It has linked type spring suspension at the front and an off-set shock absorber at the rear. For brakes, the old scooter had 110mm drum brakes at both ends.
On the other hand, the DX EV gets a lot of modern equipment and comes with a telescopic fork and preload-adjustable twin rear shock absorbers. It gets a 220mm front disc brake at the front and a 130mm rear disc brake with a combined braking system. The new e-scooter, though, comes with 12-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 100-section tubeless tyres.
Features
The OG Kinetic DX came equipped with an analogue instrument console that showed readouts of speed, odometer and a fuel gauge along with telltale lights. The scooter got a halogen headlamp, indicators, and a taillamp too. The scooter was also known for its spacious floorboard. For reference, the floorboard can fit a typical gas cylinder.
Being a modern electric scooter, the DX EV has a lot of features. It gets an 8.8-inch instrument console, whose design Kinetic has tried to keep as close to the original as possible. It gets a speaker near the instrument console for basic audio alerts. It comes with smartphone connectivity for basic information along with hill hold, cruise control, reverse mode, regenerative braking. It also gets a bunch of
Price Analysis
TheOG Kinetic DX was priced about Rs 37,000 (ex-showroom) before being discontinued in 2001. The new DX EV is priced from Rs 1,14,500 (ex-showroom, Pune) and it might be a good pick if you are in the market for a family scooter that is practical enough.
