India-Made Harley-Davidson X440 To Be Sold Worldwide

The Harley-Davidson X440 is finally heading to international markets. Harley-Davidson revealed this as part of its new “Back to the Bricks” strategy presentation, where the company outlined its plans to grow volumes globally with more accessible motorcycles.

The X440 was developed in partnership with Hero MotoCorp and was introduced as Harley-Davidson’s most affordable motorcycle for India. Until now, the bike had remained exclusive to the Indian market.

A few months ago, Harley-Davidson also expanded the lineup with the launch of the new X440 T iteration, which brought a slightly more sporty flavour to the roadster. The move to sell the X440 internationally now shows Harley’s intent to use the India-developed platform to enter newer and more price-sensitive markets. The bike that will be sold in the Americas and other markets will be called the Sprint 440, and it might have some minor tweaks to suit other markets’ needs.

Engine And Features

The Harley-Davidson X440 is powered by a 440cc, air/oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 27PS and 38Nm. The engine comes paired to a 6-speed gearbox and is tuned for a relaxed riding experience with strong low-and mid-range torque.

The bike is built on a steel trellis frame and gets a USD fork along with twin rear shock absorbers. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS. In terms of features, the X440 gets all-LED lighting, a TFT console with smartphone connectivity and navigation support.

Harley’s Bigger Plans

Harley-Davidson’s investor presentation also revealed that the brand is planning to revive its iconic air-cooled V-twin platform. The company confirmed the return of the Sportster lineup, positioning it as a highly customisable middleweight motorcycle with an attainable price point.

This means the legendary Harley-Davidson bike, the Iron 883, could make a comeback to India in the future. The 883 platform was quite popular in the country during its earlier run, and its return would certainly excite Harley enthusiasts here.
