Honda has decided to enter the EV two-wheeler market, thanks to the consistent rise in demand for EVs and the number of mainstream manufacturers joining the EV bandwagon. The Japanese company aims at launching its very first product within a year.
We expect it to be a brand new model rather than Honda using the U-Go scooter platform which was launched in China back in August. Moreover, keeping the affordability aspect in mind, Honda could also heavily localise the scooter. This will be crucial for Honda as it also has plans to export the new electric scooter to global markets.

While it is coming along at a rapid pace, the required infrastructure for the electric vehicle market to flourish in India is still quite some distance away. Honda could employ its learnings in swappable battery tech from the Benly e scooter, which, incidentally, has also been spotted testing on our roads.
With the Activa consistently being the most popular model sold in India, it won’t be a surprise if Honda’s electric division develops something like an Activa E. Once launched, it will have the Ather 450X, TVS iQube Electric and the Bajaj Chetak in its crosshairs.

- Eco Dream Ride Finally RealI always wanted to ride something eco friendly. I saw people buying electric scooters but I waited for Honda because I knew they had make something good. When Activa E launched I went for test ride and booked it the same day. The ride is soft and light. My mother also rides it sometimes and says it is very comfortable. Once we went 40 km in one day and came back with charge still left. It does not make any sound and that feels nice. Very calm ride. Yes go for it.
