Honda Dio BS6 Teased, Launch Soon

The upcoming scooter will get a silent starter and a fuel-injected BS6-compliant engine

• The teaser reveals a sportier apron with redesigned LED headlamp and DRLs.
• The front wheel appears to be larger and is likely to get a telescopic front fork.
• Even the rear portion has been redesigned and could get an external fuel filler.

The Honda Dio BS6 has been teased, indicating a launch, possibly in a few weeks. Earlier, we had predicted what the BS6-compliant iteration of the Dio might get and not surprisingly, some of the aspects are indeed coming true. For instance, the teaser’s tagline ‘A Quiet Revolution’ hints at the presence of an ACG (Alternating Current Generator) starter in the Dio BS6. This feature debuted in India on the Honda Activa 125 BS6. 

The teaser also shows a sportier-looking apron complete with faux carbon fibre trims, a redesigned LED headlamp, and LED DRLs. Going by the shape of the front fender and a visibly larger-looking wheel, it is likely to feature a telescopic front fork and a 12-inch front wheel setup like the Honda Activa 6G. The rear is likely to feature a 10-inch unit. However, unlike the Activa 6G, the Dio may get alloy wheels in the premium DX variant. That said, steel wheels might be offered as a base version at a lesser price point. 

Honda will most probably plonk in the Activa 6G’s BS6-compliant fuel-injected motor in the Dio BS6. In the Activa, it generates 7.79PS at 8000rpm and 8.79Nm at 5250rpm. Expect the BS6-compliant Dio to get the same state of tune as well. The ACG starter will ensure silent and quick start up of the motor. We expect the scooter to also get Idling Stop System to conserve fuel. For reference, the BS4 Dio makes 7.92PS and 8.91Nm from its 109.19cc single-cylinder carburetted motor.

At the rear, the single-piece grab rail has been replaced with split units and there seems to be quite some space left after the seat section. This space is likely to be used for an external fuel filler cap, which should make refuelling a whole lot more convenient.

Considering the premium for the Activa 6G ranges from Rs 7,600 to Rs 7,900 over the Activa 5G, expect a similar delta for the Dio BS6 as well. That said, it is most likely to undercut the Activa 6G BS6 in terms of pricing. The BS4-compliant Dio costs Rs 54,241 for the Standard model and Rs 56,241 for the DLX variant (ex-showroom Delhi). Once launched, the Honda Dio BS6 will compete against Hero Maestro Edge and TVS Wego.
