Hero Splendor Plus Xtec vs Bajaj Platina 110: Platina 110 Takes On The Legend

The Hero Splendor Plus Xtec has been the undisputed legend of the 100cc segment and even today, the bike sells a lot of units each year. One of the other lovely bikes in the segment has been the Bajaj Platina 110, so today we put both bikes against each other to see which is the 100cc commuter that you should eventually buy: 

Price & Variants

•  A price gap that’s bigger than Rs 8,000 between the base variants is quite something. That much money could definitely pay for 6-7 months of fuel for you, if not more, in this fuel efficient segment. 

• And if we talk about the Splendor Plus Xtec’s top disc variant, the price gap goes up further, which definitely does not help the Splendor’s case. 

• So to sum things up, the Bajaj Platina 110 is definitely the winner of this segment with its much lower price tag. Yes, the Splendor Plus’ price tag isn’t too exorbitant and if you really want a Splendor, it can make sense. But otherwise, for most people, the Bajaj Platina 110’s price tag is what will take the cake. 

Dimensions & Design 

• And it’s a clean sweep for the Platina 110 in every dimension. The Platina is taller, longer, wider, heavier and has substantially more ground clearance as well. But then the differences aren’t big enough for you to take a buying call on. 

• Yes, the Platina is heavier but the weight difference isn’t something that will actually make the Platina a harder bike to ride. 

• As for the Splendor, we already know how easy it is for everyone in the family to ride this bike. Be it the 18 year olds with a fresh license or the grandparents of the house, they can all get on this bike and ride it around with ease. 

• Design-wise, they’re both skinny looking bikes that are easy on the eye and will blend into the sea of 100cc commuters with absolute ease. That’s an important thing in this segment so we’re going to call it a tie. 

Features & Safety

• With its Xtec badge, the Splendor Plus is one of the most feature-loaded bikes in this segment. Along with a digital console, the bike also gets Bluetooth connectivity as standard, something that opens up a lot of features. In fact, a lot of these are bits that we’ve never seen in bigger bikes as well. 

• Along with these, there’s also a disc brake at the front as an option. Along with these, though, we wish Hero had also given a single-channel ABS at the front, at the very least, as an optional add-on, for everyone who’s a bit more concerned about their safety on our unpredictable roads. 

• The Platina 110, meanwhile, keeps things extremely simple with an analogue console and tubeless tyres which ensure that puncture repairs are simple. But apart from these 2, the bike doesn’t really have any features to talk about. So if we have to declare a winner, it has to be the Splendor Plus Xtec. 

Engines

• With its bigger engine, the Platina 110 makes quite a bit more power and torque. But then the Platina’s also a bigger, heavier bike so the net difference isn’t really felt a lot in the real world. 

• Both bikes have brisk acceleration till about 50-60kmph, which is more than enough for most use cases in the city. Both bikes will also return mileage of more than 75kmpl in the city if you ride them at a pace that they’re supposed to be ridden at. 

• But if you take them out on the highway, the struggle starts after the aforementioned speeds and if long, sustained highway runs are a part of your everyday commute, we’d advise you to upgrade to a 125cc or a 150cc bike. 

Verdict 

With a price gap of more than Rs 8,000 among the base variants, the Bajaj Platina 110 seems to be the more value for money bike of the two and that’s why it’d be our winner in this detailed comparison.  

That said, the Splendor has a lot more features and will feel like the more contemporary and modern of the two. If you want that and is something you’re ready to pay extra for, you could definitely go for the Splendor, given that it also carries a much more legendary nameplate in this segment.
