It will likely be more affordable than the Royal Enfield Himalayan, and could be launched by the end of this year or early next year

  • The Royal Enfield Himalayan Scram comes with a triple-clamp mounted headlamp sans windshield.
  • It also gets small tank extensions, and a simple single-piece grab rail at the rear.
  • The front wheel is a smaller unit, likely a 19-incher.

The Royal Enfield Scram has been spotted testing yet again without camouflage. This time around, it’s been spotted in the outskirts of Chennai, in a grey colour scheme. The colour is similar to the Gravel Grey scheme on the Royal Enfield Himalayan. Expect Royal Enfield to launch the motorcycle by the end of this month or early next month. It could be priced at around Rs 1.95 lakh (ex-showroom), making it Rs 15,000 less expensive than the Himalayan.

Unlike the brushed metal finish in the headlight nacelle in the bike that was spotted at the commercial shoot earlier, this one gets a blacked out unit. The headlamp is mounted on the triple clamp and it lacks a windscreen as well. The asymmetrical twin pod instrument cluster is likely to have been borrowed from the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, and could come with turn-by-turn navigation at least as an optional fitment.

The fuel tank extensions are blacked out too, and so are the powertrain and underpinnings. Thankfully, Royal Enfield has not skimped on the metal bash plate. It also gets a single-piece seat and a simple single-piece grab rail instead of the split seat setup with tail rack-integrated grab rail in the Himalayan.

The powertrain will be the same 411cc single-cylinder counterbalanced air-cooled unit with oil cooler. It’s also expected to make the same 24.3PS and 32Nm as the Himalayan, paired to a 5-speed transmission. While it gets a long travel front fork and a rear monoshock. The front wheel appears to be a smaller 19 inch unit. That said, the wheels are still spoke units with block pattern tyres, so its off-road abilities shouldn’t be too compromised.

The Royal Enfield Scram serves as the perfect middle ground between the more affordable and off-road-friendlier Hero XPulse 200 4V and the more balanced ADV, the Royal Enfield Himalayan. It will also go up against the Yezdi Adventure, which is likely to be launched soon. Are you keen on waiting for the Scram to be launched? Let us know in the comments.
