Honda Shine 100: Explained in Images

The Honda Shine 100 doesn't try to impress with features; it just gets the basics right, and at its price, that's exactly the point

    Honda Shine 100

The Honda Shine 100 is priced at Rs 65,642, ex-showroom Delhi. That makes it Honda's most affordable bike in India, and it's clearly aimed at buyers who want a fuel-efficient means of point A to B commute. Honda hasn't tried to load it up with features; it's kept the focus on ensuring it’s light, has a comfortable seating position, and a mileage-friendly-engine. Here's a closer look at what it offers:

    Simple, Familiar Design

    Honda Shine 100

Honda has kept the overall look similar to the extremely popular Shine 125. It may not look fancy, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, as its target customers love a neutral design. Up front sits a halogen headlamp tucked into a blacked-out cowl, and the bikini fairing keeps things clean without trying too hard. It won't turn heads on the street, but it also won't put anyone off, which is exactly the kind of middle ground commuter buyers tend to look for.

    Details:

    • Five-spoke cast alloy wheels look nice in black, but sadly it still gets tubed tyres

    • Panel quality is a mixed bag; there was a noticeable flex on the side panels near the tail section when pressed - on the pre-production prototype that we rode- so don't expect the sturdiest fit and finish at this price point.

    Colours

    Honda Shine 100 Colours

The body stays black across the range, and Honda instead uses dual-tone graphics to add some variety. It's a straightforward way to offer some choice without pushing up costs.

    Details:

    • Black with Blue and Black with Red are the punchier options, both pairing the black body with brighter tank graphics.

    • Black with Orange and Black with Gray sit in the middle, offering a bit of contrast without being too loud.

    • Black with Green rounds off the range as the more funky option.

    Engine And Performance

    Honda Shine 100 Engine (Right)

    Power comes from an all-new 98.98cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, a first for Honda's small-capacity commuter line-up in India. It makes 7.38PS at 7,500rpm and 8.05Nm at 5,000rpm, paired with a 4-speed gearbox.

    Details:

    • Low-end response is a highlight; you can pull away from a signal in second gear without the engine struggling, which suits stop-start city traffic well.

    • Push past 60kmph and the engine does start to feel a bit strained; overtakes need some planning, though it never feels unsettled; it's simply tuned more for city use than sustained highway speeds.

    • Honda hasn't officially shared a mileage figure yet, but going by the engine's character, the real-world mileage should be somewhere between 60-70kmpl, and with a 9-litre tank, that works out to a range of over 500km on a full tank.

    Features

    Honda Shine 100 console

This isn't a feature-loaded motorcycle, and it doesn't pretend to be. What you do get covers the essentials without any major additions.

    Details:

    • A side-stand engine cut-off is included, which proves useful in everyday city riding when it's easy to forget the stand is still down.

    • The instrument console is a basic analogue twin-pod unit showing speed, fuel level and a few tell-tale lights, there's no digital layer, no trip meter, not even a clock. Honda should’ve given a clock.

    • Some components, like the headlight, taillight and indicator units, are shared with other models in Honda's line-up, which should help keep replacement costs low.

    Underpinnings And Other Specifications

The setup here is about as simple as it gets: telescopic forks up front and twin shock absorbers at the rear, holding up a diamond-type frame. At just 99kg kerb, the bike stays light on its feet, which shows in how easily it moves through tight traffic.

    Details:

    • Braking duty is handled by a 130mm drum up front and a 110mm drum at the rear, backed by a combined braking system, the bite is decent, though feedback at the lever isn't the strongest. We’d have liked a front disc at least as an option here.

    • Seat height is set at 786mm, and combined with a narrow tank and mid-set footpegs, it makes the bike pretty accessible to riders of most heights.

    • The rear suspension is tuned slightly firmer than the front, which feels stiff solo but balances out nicely with a pillion or some load on board.

    Honda Shine 100

The Honda Shine 100 focuses on simplicity, being light and easy to use, with an affordable price. It has some drawbacks like panel quality and brake feedback, but it delivers what it promises for the price. Competing with the Hero Splendor Plus, Bajaj Platina 100, and TVS Sport, the Shine 100 offers Honda a solid choice in a segment where it hasn't led in a while.

      Honda shine 100
Honda Shine 100 chalane ka experience kaafi accha aur practical laga. Bike lightweight hai, isliye city traffic mein easily handle ho jaati hai. Mileage mujhe approx 65-70 kmpl mila, jo daily commute ke liye perfect hai. Engine smooth hai, gear shifting soft hai, aur seat bhi kaafi comfortable hai. Budget mein ek best commuter bike hai.
