The upcoming KTM 490 Duke has been spotted testing overseas, giving us a closer look at the new parallel-twin engine being jointly developed by Bajaj and KTM. The upcoming motorcycle is expected to sit above the 390 Duke in KTM’s lineup and bring significantly more performance to the segment.
Design Highlights
The test mule appears to be in the early stages of development and is currently running with almost no body panels. Interestingly, the bike can be seen using a headlight similar to the one seen on the KTM 390 Duke.
While this could make its way onto the production-spec motorcycle, there is also a high chance that the headlight has simply been fitted for the testing phase. The final design is expected to be considerably different, especially once the production bodywork is added.
New Parallel-Twin Engine
Apart from the styling, the spy shots give us a clear look at the new engine. The KTM 490 Duke is expected to use a parallel-twin motor producing around 60-65PS. The engine is likely to be paired with a 6-speed gearbox and will also get a bidirectional quickshifter.
The test bike can also be seen with an upswept exhaust system, which should contribute to the motorcycle’s aggressive stance while helping keep the overall package relatively compact.

Features & Technology
