The Bajaj Pulsar 180F will continue the bike’s legacy

• For a long time, the Pulsar 180 was the torchbearer of affordable performance motorcycling in the country. 
• However, it had started to show its age and was struggling in terms of sales.
• Sources confirmed that production for the bike stopped a month ago. 

Bajaj dealerships across the country have confirmed that the Pulsar 180 has been pulled off the shelves. The production of the bike reportedly came to a halt last month. It’s not surprising as the Pulsar 180 was struggling in terms of sales. Another possibility for the bike's demise would be the introduction of the Pulsar 180F, which takes its design cues from the much loved Pulsar 220F. 

The 220F still rakes in respectable numbers for the brand despite being a decade old. However, the addition of ABS on the Pulsar 220F has pushed its price to around 1.05 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune), which is a bit on the pricier side for enthusiasts. That leaves a huge gap between the Pulsar 150 and the Pulsar 220, which is where the Pulsar 180F slots in. It’s soon to be updated with ABS as well, which should bring along an increment of around Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000, positioning it just under Rs 1 lakh. 

This gives customers more options to choose from, including the Pulsar 150 ABS, which should be priced around Rs 85,000; the Pulsar 180F ABS (approx. Rs 95,000), and the Pulsar 220F ABS, priced at Rs 1.05 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). What the Pulsar 180F has going for it, though, is the fact that it gets the looks of the Pulsar 220 and puts out more performance compared to the Pulsar 150. 

To put things into perspective, the Pulsar 220F uses a 220cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled motor that generates 20.93PS at 8,500rpm and 18.55Nm at 7,000rpm. In comparison, the 180F is powered by a 178.6cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that puts out 17.2PS at 8,500rpm and 14.22Nm of peak torque at 6500rpm. Last but not the least, the Pulsar 150 draws power from a 149.5cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled mill that churns out 14PS of power at 8000rpm and 13.4Nm of torque at 6000rpm. All three engines come mated to a 5-speed transmission. All the abovementioned bikes will be equipped with ABS pretty soon, which will help them comply with government safety norms.
