5 Most Fuel-efficient Two-wheelers We Tested In 2019

From the new Activa 125 to the Platina 110 H-Gear, here are the top 5 two-wheelers which will help you save a lot in fuel prices

‘Kitna Deti Hain?’ is one of the most important questions when a buyer asks when he is on the lookout for a new scooter or a motorcycle. The numbers that the manufacturers announce are claimed figures so we test two-wheelers the old fashioned way to find out the correct fuel efficiency. So which two-wheeler from the class of 2019 topped our list of ‘Most fuel-efficient two-wheeler’? Read on to find out:

1: Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear:

Back in June, Bajaj added another commuter motorcycle to its portfolio with an unusually long name, the Platina 110 H-Gear. Being a commuter motorcycle, Bajaj knows that fuel-efficiency is the top priority in this segment. And boy, did Bajaj deliver an efficient motorcycle. In our test, the Platina 110 H-Gear averaged 74.21kmpl! Equipped with an 11-litre fuel tank, you can theoretically cover around 800km without stopping for fuel. Moreover, the Platina 110 H-Gear is the only motorcycle in its segment that comes with a 5-speed gearbox, which helps it cruise at 70kmph on the highways. 

2: Hero Maestro Edge 125: 

Coming in at second place is the Hero Maestro Edge 125 with an average of 56.76kmpl, making it the most fuel-efficient scooter that we tested in 2019. What’s interesting is that it comes with a start-stop feature that saves those precious drops of fuel when the scooter is standing still. The 124.6cc single-cylinder engine puts out 8.83PS of power at 6750rpm and 10.2Nm of torque at 5000rpm. If your daily commute is restricted to within city limits, then you might have to just fuel up the Maestro Edge 125 twice a month. 

3: Bajaj Pulsar 125: 

Say you don’t want a 125cc scooter, and instead, fancy an entry-level 125cc motorcycle with a dash of sportiness and doesn’t compromise on efficiency. Then there’s the Pulsar 125 for you. At 54.23kmpl, the Pulsar 125 is just a few kmpl behind the Maestro Edge. But considering the Pulsar 125 retains the same sporty character as its bigger siblings, the fuel efficiency figures are pretty impressive. 

4: 2019 Yamaha FZS-Fi:

Yes, there’s a 150cc motorcycle in this list as well. The 149cc engine in the 2019 FZS-Fi makes less power than the Apache RTR 160 4V in order to extract more fuel-efficiency. With an average of 53.865kmpl, the FZS-Fi is just 0.365kmpl behind than the Pulsar 125! The only downside of making efficiency the number one priority is that the motor lacks punch and once you have crossed 7000rpm, the motor starts to feel a bit strained. 

5: 2019 Honda Activa 125: 

Finally, we have Honda’s first BS6-compliant two-wheeler, the 2019 Activa 125. Interestingly, the Activa 125 is also the only BS6-compliant two-wheeler in this list. The fuel-injected 124cc unit makes 8.29PS and 10.3Nm of torque and, as tested, has an average of 51.94kmpl. However, the highlight of the 2019 Activa 125 is its ACG starter, which works flawlessly during peak traffic conditions.
