Top 5 Best Affordable Electric Bikes Under Rs 5 Lakh That You Can Buy This Diwali

With petrol getting expensive day by day, the only way to reduce fuel costs is to get an electric bike. Electric motorcycles are known to have lower running costs, and that’s a fact. So be it replacing a humble commuter or even a sporty bike to have fun on, here are 5 most affordable electric bikes under Rs 5 lakh for you to consider this Diwali: 

Ola Roadster X 2.5 kWh - Rs 74,999

Yes, you read that right. An electric bike that costs less than the Hero Splendor Plus. The Roadster X is the most affordable electric bike in India. The bike can be had with multiple battery packs but the most affordable obviously comes with the smallest 2.5kWh battery pack. But even for a base variant, the bike’s specs are impressive, at least on paper. Claimed figures include a 140km range, 105kmph top speed and a 0-40kmph sprint in 3.4 seconds. 

The Roadster itself looks quite basic: long seat, twin shocks, drum brakes, etc, and that’s fine at this price point. But the big battery pack right under the ‘fuel tank’ might just make it look a bit more unique on our roads. The biggest benefit though, is obviously the sheer petrol savings. Buyers in this segment are quite price conscious so not having to spend a single Rupee on petrol could make a big difference. EVs are also usually less expensive in terms of service costs so you could save money there too. In sum, if you want something to replace your Hero Splendor Plus or your Honda Shine 100, the Ola Roadster X might be the closest replacement, for now. 

Revolt RV1 - Rs 94,990 

Next on the list is the Revolt RV1, a quirky looking electric bike. When we first rode the Revolt RV400, it didn’t do much wrong and it felt like a decent electric bike. So the more affordable RV1 might just be even better. There’s a 2.2kWh battery which gives the bike an IDC-certified 100km range in Eco mode. The best part is that while EVs can be quite heavy (given their big batteries), the RV1 weighs just 105kg and that means everyone in your family can ride it quite easily. 

While it is a simple commuter, Revolt has made some efforts into making the RV1 look different from the usual crop of commuters. The round headlight, little cowl on top of it, muscular looking front ‘shrouds’ at the front and overall old school design make it look different and that’s a nice thing. The bike’s also available in 4 bright colours: Black Midnight Blue, Black Neon Green, Cosmic Black Red, and Titan Red Silver. They’re all attractive colours which will grab attention for sure. 

Oben Rorr EZ 2.6kWh - Rs 99,999

The Oben Rorr EZ 2.6kWh variant slots right under the Rs 1 lakh mark. The standard Oben Rorr proved to be a fun bike when we last rode it and given that the EZ is built on the same platform, things shouldn’t be too different in its case as well. With its 2.6kWh battery pack, Oben claims a range of 110km on the EZ. 

So while the Rorr EZ ticks the practical boxes, what it can also be is a lot of fun. The standard Rorr was a light feeling bike that had just enough performance to keep you entertained. So the EZ will not only help you save a lot of petrol money, it could also have that fun factor you’re looking for in your first bike. Hence it could be a good replacement for a sporty 125cc bike. 

Matter Aera 5000 - Rs 1,81,308 

At Rs 1.81 lakh, the Matter Aera 5000 is a lot more expensive than the previously mentioned bikes. But then the bike also seems to have specs that sort of match the price tag. Matter claims that the bike has a 172km certified range along with a 105kmph top speed. 0-40kmph will take about 2.8 seconds and there are 3 riding modes on offer as well. In its latest iteration, the bike also got a fancy looking 7-inch TFT console. It looks expensive and is quite nice to operate and read as well. 

The Aera’s party trick though, is its 4-speed gearbox for sure. Yes, an electric bike with a gearbox. The Aera 5000 has a gearbox and in order to get the feel of riding a normal petrol-powered bike, the brand has equipped it with a gearbox. While we don’t think it really adds to the experience, it’s a unique feature for sure and it’s something motorcycle purists might like. If all these unique things on the Aera 5000 make you feel like it’s a premium bike, it could help justify the price tag. 

Ultraviolette F77 SuperStreet - Rs 2,99,000

But what if you want as much fun as possible while saving money on petrol? Then it doesn’t get much better than the Ultraviolette F77 SuperStreet. At Rs 2.99 lakh, it’s not cheap but it’s the fastest electric bike in India and the sheer fun factor is the highest among the bikes on this list. A bike that accelerates from 0-60kmph in under 3 seconds and has a 155kmph top speed (both claimed) means you’ll be flying through the city traffic at a delightful pace on the SuperStreet. The base variant’s 211km certified range sounds nice too and over the years we’ve seen that Ultraviolette bikes are usually quite accurate with their range predictions. In sum, the SuperStreet could prove to be a pretty nice replacement for a 300-350cc bike. 

Now, yes the brand also offers the Shockwave (Rs 1,75,000) and the X47 Crossover (Rs 2,49,000), both of which are less expensive than the SuperStreet. But we’re yet to ride both the bikes, so can’t comment on them for now. If those two interest you more than the SuperStreet, head to the nearest Ultraviolette showroom and do get a test ride for yourself.
