We compare how the new bike fares against the previous one?

A couple of days ago, TVS launched the 2021 Apache RTR 160 4V, which features some changes over the existing model. So, let’s take a look at what’s different between the updated and the previous bike.

Same Motor, More Power And Torque

TVS has managed to extract more power from the same motor in the 2021 model. It’s that 159.7cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected engine with an oil cooler, but now makes 17.63PS and 14.73Nm. For reference, here are the power figures of the 2021, 2020, and the BS4 models of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V.

Model

Power

Torque

2021 Apache RTR 160 4V

17.63PS

14.73Nm

2020 Apache RTR 160 4V

16.02PS

14.12Nm

BS4 Apache RTR 160 4V

16.79PS

14.8Nm

It’s impressive that TVS has made the motorcycle even more powerful than the BS4-compliant version, despite adhering to the stringent BS6 emission norms. With the latest updates, the Apache RTR 160 4V is the most powerful bike in its segment, beating the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 by 0.43PS and 0.13Nm.

Weight Reduction

Without altering the cosmetics of the Apache RTR 160 4V, TVS has managed to shed two kilos on both variants. The rear-drum brake variant now weighs 145kg (instead of the earlier 147kg), whereas the rear disc brake variant tips the scales at 147kg (instead of the 149kg previously). The bike still gets a 12-litre fuel tank as before.

New Seat

TVS claims that the 2021 model has got a new dual-tone seat with a carbon fibre pattern. However, in the press images, the seat looks the same as before. The seat height remains at 800mm.

What’s unchanged?

TVS has introduced all these differences to the new model without changing the asking price. The 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is available in two variants: rear drum brake and rear disc brake. The former is priced at Rs 1,07,270, while the latter retails at Rs 1,10,320. That said, TVS did hike the prices of the Apache RTR 160 4V back in January.

The feature list includes an LED headlamp with DRLs, the LCD console, and TVS’s Glide Through Technology. The underpinnings are the same as before. TVS has sprung the Apache RTR 160 4V on telescopic forks and a mono-shock set-up. Braking hardware consists of a 270mm front and a 200mm rear disc, or a 130mm rear drum brake with single-channel ABS.

Its rivals are the Bajaj Pulsar NS160, Suzuki Gixxer and the Hero Xtreme 160R
