Yamaha YZF-R15 S launched at Rs 1.14 lakhs

Yamaha Motors India has finally launched its YZF-R15 S at Rs 1.14 Lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi). The bike will be sold alongside its second-gen model named as YZF-R15 V 2.0, which is in the market for the last four years.

The new bike has taken in the best features of both first and second gen models and the company has claimed that the decision was made based on the customer feedback. It is powered by same 149.8cc, single-cylinder, liquid cooled engine that produces 17 PS of power at 8500rpm and 15Nm of torque at 7500rpm, which is mated to a 6-speed transmission.

The major difference in both the bikes is the seat. The R15 V 2.0 has well-cushioned split seats, which makes it difficult for the pillion rider to sit for longer duration, also, the pillion seat is quite high making the things even worse.

During the event, Vice President - Sales and Marketing, Yamaha Motors, Mr. Roy Kurian said, "Yamaha R15 is a pure sports vehicle designed especially for racing enthusiasts so that they can experience the power and passion that a sports bike has to offer. However, our research showed that a particular customer segment desired for a single seat version as it is more convenient for the pillion rider. Even so, the split seat version 2.0 will also continue to be in the market along with the new single seat variant. We, at Yamaha keep our customers first and hence this introduction was imperative."
