Yamaha R15-based Y16ZR Doxou Edition Launched In Malaysia

The sporty underbone scooter comes with a funky colour scheme, and is limited to just 5,000 units

The sporty underbone scooter comes with a funky colour scheme, and is limited to just 5,000 units

  • The Yamaha Y16ZR Doxou Edition comes with a unique dark blue colour scheme with differently coloured wheels.
  • Is powered by a 155cc VVA-equipped liquid-cooled engine with 6-speed manual transmission.
  • Costs RM 800 (around Rs 14,400) more than the standard model.

Yamaha has launched the Y16ZR Doxou Edition in Malaysia. According to the Japanese manufacturer, the word ‘Doxou’ comes from the Japanese term ‘Dokusou,’ meaning ‘to be creative and be ahead of others.’ The 5,000-unit limited edition scooter is priced at RM 11,688 (around Rs 2.11 lakh) excluding taxes, making it RM 800 (around Rs 14,444) more expensive than the standard iteration. Each scooter comes with a certificate of authenticity, a complimentary coloured ring screw and a disc lock.

For the extra premium, you get a unique dark blue colour scheme with red and blue graphics on the bodywork, along with ‘Doxou’ stickers. The front alloy wheel gets a blue finish whereas the rear one comes in red. This asymmetrical colour scheme really brings out the funky nature of this special-edition scooter. Apart from the cosmetic updates, the rest of the mechanicals and underpinnings remain unchanged.

The Y16ZR Doxou Edition is powered by a Yamaha R15 V3-based 155cc single-cylinder SOHC liquid-cooled engine, making 17.94PS and 14.4Nm. It’s mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with assist and slipper clutch. In comparison, the India-spec Yamaha Aerox 155 with the automatic transmission makes 15PS and 13.9Nm.

The Y16ZR’s engine sits inside an underbone frame linked to a telescopic front fork and a rear monoshock. The scooter rides on large 17-inch alloys at both ends wrapped with 90-section front and 120-section rear tubeless tyres. Both wheels feature disc brakes but there’s no ABS. Feature list includes an all-LED headlamp and tail lamp, bulb indicators, full-LCD instrument cluster, apron-mounted 12V DC socket, smart key with immobiliser, and a 5.4-litre underseat fuel tank.

Since scooters are often associated with practicality, thanks to the newbie-friendliness of their automatic transmissions. Since the Yamaha Y16ZR doesn’t score high on these fronts, this scooter or its special edition variant will not be launched in India. Moreover, we already have the Yamaha Aerox 155, which is just as capable as the Malaysian scooter, all the while offering slightly better practicality.

Value of Money, Mint Condition

Excellent scooter with bike like performance. Hasn't given me any issues. Still less than a year old and only 10k driven and has a 5 year insurance too. A really good scooter for both leisure and work commutes. Tyres are almost brand new and really good fuel economy too. Everyone should buy this one.Read More

Yamaha Aerox 155

The scooter is amazing. Great performance and good mileage as well was getting around 35 kmpl in city. Great handling and high-speed stability with good breaks. Everything is good but the scooter is not suitable for tall riders. The boot could fit an entire full-face helmet inside as well along with space to keep a jacket as well. Read More

Good scooty with lots of flaws to be corrected

Because of its performance. It looks good. It has a good pickup and the balance is also very good. The agility is also decent. And the engine is super refined. And it stands out in its competition easily. I have a mixed experience with this bike. The battery got dead in just 6000 km. I had to replace the battery. The issue with the rear rim was the worst. The socket in which the rim fits it got loose and when i went to the service centre, they didn't come up with the solution. The front suspension is so hard that you can't even take small pots on the road. And the fit and finish can be much better. The rear break is week. If the road condition is very good and millage is not an issue and someone who wants a scooter which can deliver power and has a good road presence can consider it. But personally I would not purchase again this scooter.Read More

Yamaha Aerox dashing review.

I choose this because of the muscular looks and the bulkiness. I love the muscular looks specially this Yamaha Aerox. And the feel when you ride this giant scooter on road everyone see this like how a scooter looks like this muscular. Ride is comfortable and smooth braking system. And specially the disc is so much good that you just put your fingers on the brake and it stop immediately. And the comfortness of the back rider is also good. Yes who need a muscular body type scooty obviously go for it blind foldy. You get a smooth experience when your ride it on road. And the boot space is also huge you can store many things including helmet also.Read More
