How much of a difference have all the segment-first features made?
TVS today launched the 2021 Apache RTR 200 4V which will replace the current dual-channel ABS variant. It was rolled out to commemorate the 4 million sales landmark for the Apache lineup, and while we were expecting just a sticker facelift, TVS has wowed us by packing a lot of exciting equipment into the new bike. Here’s how it compares to its predecessor:

The basic 197.75cc oil-cooled single-cylinder engine has been retained, but both power and torque have increased over the old bike, bringing the 2021 RTR 200 4V closer to the older BS4 model’s output figures. The end result is claimed acceleration times of 3.9sec to 60kmph and 12.78sec to 100kmph. But the big change, of course, is that TVS is now offering three different ride modes on the 2021 bike: Sport, Urban and Rain. Sport mode sees full power, full top speed and the least intrusive ABS setting, while the latter two see a lower power output and top speed, with the difference between them being the ABS intrusiveness.

Adjustable front suspension is something we haven’t even seen in the 300-400cc segment but TVS has wowed us by introducing it in the 200cc segment. The 2021 RTR 200 4V features a Showa front fork that is adjustable for preload, in place of the earlier bike’s non-adjustable unit. Rear suspension continues to be a monoshock from Showa, carried over from the old bike. The good news continues because despite packing in more hardware, the 2021 bike is actually 1kg lighter than its predecessor, at 152kg! This, combined with the increased engine output, should certainly mean sprightlier performance.

The basic appearance of the 2021 RTR 200 4V remains the same, with the only change being the introduction of a matte blue colour scheme inspired by TVS’ race bikes. Like earlier, the bike gets a Bluetooth-enabled digital display, slipper clutch and Glide Through Technology, but TVS has now also thrown in adjustable brake and clutch levers. The best news of all has to be the price, though, because at Rs 1,31,050 (ex-showroom Delhi), the 2021 RTR 200 4V is just Rs 1,000 more expensive than the dual-channel ABS variant it replaces.
