Suzuki Access 125 vs TVS Jupiter 125: Specs, Performance And More

The Suzuki Access 125 has been a benchmark setter ever since its launch in 2017. The TVS Jupiter 125 is also quite a popular scooter in the 125cc family scooter segment. Both have been updated in the last 12 months but how do the two scooters compare against each other on paper? Let’s have a look:

Performance

The Suzuki Access 125 and the TVS Jupiter 125 are very similar in terms of performance, with the Jupiter offering slightly more power and torque. This means that it should be a bit more fun than the Access 125 but the gains are marginal. The Jupiter offers a bit more top-end grunt but the Access 125 offers a slightly more refined engine, even though the refinement levels of the Jupiter 125’s motors are quite good. So, it is not that straightforward to pick a winner between the two and the decision making process will ultimately come down to how each scooter suits a particular rider’s riding style.

Underpinnings

 Similar to the above section, there is not much to choose between the two on paper in terms of their underpinnings except for the wheel sizes. The Suzuki Access 125 comes with a 10-inch rear wheel while the TVS Jupiter 125 comes with a bigger 12-inch wheel. The advantage of a bigger rear wheel is that it offers better stability and a more pliant ride quality, at least theoretically.  

Dimensions

 Straight line stability on the TVS Jupiter 125 should be better because of the comparatively longer wheelbase than the Access 125. The Access 125’s longer seat should make it more comfortable for two adults to sit properly and weave through traffic without feeling cramped. And speaking of weaving through traffic, the slightly lighter kerb weight of the Access 125 should make it more agile and easier to handle.

Features

Both scooters get a TFT instrument console with a speedometer, odometer, trip meter, fuel gauge, clock and Bluetooth connectivity for call and SMS alerts and turn-by-turn navigation. They also have a USB charging port in the front apron, front storage space and an external fuel filler cap, which makes filling up the scooter at petrol stations very convenient. But the Jupiter 125 takes the edge in this department because of two factors. The first is the additional features of the instrument console, which provides voice assistance and shows live sports updates, news updates and weather updates. If you like a feature-rich vehicle, then these additional features should make the Jupiter 125 more appealing to you. The second factor is the bigger underseat storage space (around 9 litres more), which is a big part of what makes a scooter more convenient than a motorcycle and which allows one to go about their delivery commutes including the family grocery runs without much stress.

As we have seen till now, in terms of performance and underpinnings, both scooters are pretty similar on paper, with each having their own little slight advantages. The Access 125 takes the edge in terms of comfort from the point of view of a longer seat and slightly better handling capabilities because of the lighter kerb weight. The Jupiter 125 is superior to the Access 125 in terms of features and convenience. Also, a very important thing to note here is that if you want all the bells and whistles the Jupiter 125 has to offer, you have to shell out about Rs 7,000 for the top-end SmartXonnect variant compared to the Access 125’s Ride Connect TFT Edition.

So, if you are on the market for a premium family scooter that offers refined and spirited performance along with good handling characteristics and comfort levels, then the Suzuki Access 125 is the one for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for a refined family scooter with good stability and convenience and don’t mind shelling out the extra bucks for a very feature-rich scooter, then the TVS Jupiter 125 is the one you should consider.
