The second largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India- Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) has registered an overall sales growth of 2 percent in the month of March 2015. The company sold 3,99,179 two wheelers in the respective month, which are 7,118 more in comparison to same month in 2014. With this huge sales figure, the company has achieved its highest ever domestic market share of 29.1 percent.
HMSI is leading the scooter segment in India with its best selling Activa and 4 other scooter models. Growth of the company in the scooter segment stood at 21.78 percent with the sales of 2,38,919 units in March 2015, against the sales of 1,96,191 units in the corresponding month last year. It also has a fleet of 11 motorcycles apart from the superbikes including 5 mass segment (100-125cc commuters) motorcycles. However, it has seen a fall of 18.27 percent in the respective category selling 1,45,508 bikes in March 2015 as compared to the sales of 1,78,035 units in the same month last year.
Export numbers of the HMSI have also fallen from 17,834 units in March 2014 to 14,751 units in March 2015, registering a decline of 17.29 percent. Looking forward on the continuously increasing sales figures, company has also announced to increase the production capacity to 6.4 million per year by 2016.
