Hero MotoCorp Leap to hit the market in February'15

Hero MotoCorp Leap is an electric serial hybrid scooter that was showcased in January, 2014 is expected to be launched in February next year. The manufacturer has planned to manufacture the scooter in its Gurgaon plant. Initially, the company will be producing only 6,000 units annually, which will be increased gradually with the increase in demand.

Hero Motorcorp Leap is powered by a lithium-ion batteries coupled with an 8kW electric traction motor. Moreover, the scooter gets a range extender-anon-board generator set that spares the scooter with some extra miles. The scooter is incorporated with a refined 124cc engine that is quite fuel economic. The three options of the scooter helps the rider to stay tension free as its battery is easy to charge, there is a 3-liter large fuel tank and range extender is always there to aid the rider. The manufacturer has blessed the scooter with a 4-times powerful battery than any other battery.

The power source of Hero MotoCorp Leap being a Permanent magnet AC (PMAC) traction motor dishes out a maximum torque value of 60Nm. There is a high-technology automatic drive that enhances the durability and performance of the scooter. The range extender also adds to the speed of Leap and makes it run at its best at 100kmph. The scooter has enough power to impress the rider and to control the freak-out, it has been equipped with a Brembo two-piston 240 mm disc brake applied at the front wheel.

The Leap, a prototype of which was first shown at Auto Expo 2012, was in a pre-production ready stage in January this year when Pawan Munjal, MD and CEO, announced, “The Leap will be first launched in the global markets, mainly the western geographies and then brought to India.” The company wanted to see the response in abroad first and then in India. Just like its other motorcycles that are offered in Africa and Latin America, the scooter is also going to be rolled out in developed markets such as USA and Europe.

Besides Leap, the company is also going to launch a new ‘low-cost 100-cc motorcycle’, code-named as CP1 in mid-July, which will be designed on the lines of Hero HF Dawn. It will have an annual production of 3,00,000 units. Once done with the launch of the new motorcycle, the company will launch its 110cc scooter-Dash in August 2014 and 125cc Dare in November. Dash is a male specific scooter  that will have an annual production volume of 4,00,000 units, while 50,000 units of Dare are expected to roll out per annum.
