Here’s how two of the best electric scooters stack up against each other

    Ather 450X 3.7kWh vs Bajaj Chetak 3501

The Ather 450X has built a reputation as one of India’s sportiest and feature-packed electric scooters, aimed at riders who want sharp performance and technology. On the other hand, the Bajaj Chetak brings retro styling, a metal body, and a strong focus on practicality for everyday family use. Both sit in a similar premium price band, but take very different approaches. Here is how these two stack up against each other when you look strictly at the numbers:

    Motor, Battery, Range, & Performance

    Specifications

    Ather 450X

    Bajaj Chetak 3501

    Motor Type

    Permanent magnet mid-mounted motor

    Peak Power

    6.4kW

    4kW

    Peak Torque

    26Nm

    20Nm

    Claimed Top Speed

    90kmph

    73kmph

    Battery capacity

    3.7kWh

    3.5kWh

    IDC Range

    161km

    153km

Even before looking at power figures, the Ather 450X starts with an advantage thanks to its slightly larger battery pack, which contributes to its stronger claimed range (in this case, the top-spec variant with the 3.7kWh battery). It also produces more peak power and torque, underlining its performance-oriented positioning.

The Chetak 3501, in contrast, uses a slightly smaller battery and a motor tuned for smoother, more relaxed urban performance. Rather than chasing outright speed, its setup is focused on predictable and easy power delivery for everyday city use.

    Underpinnings

    Specifications

    Ather 450X

    Bajaj Chetak 3501

    Frame

    Aluminium frame

    Steel monocoque

    Front suspension

    Telescopic fork

    Single-sided leading-link

    Rear suspension

    Monoshock

    Front brake

    200mm disc

    Rear brake

    190mm disc

    130mm drum

    Front tyre

    90/90-12

    Rear tyre

    100/80-12

    90/90-12

Both scooters use different frame types, each with its own design philosophy, but neither layout is objectively superior on paper. The Ather scooter uses a telescopic fork, while the Chetak’s leading-link setup is more old-school in design. Braking hardware gives the Ather an advantage, as it gets disc brakes at both ends, whereas the Chetak uses a rear drum. The Ather also runs a wider rear tyre, which should theoretically offer better grip and stability under harder acceleration. While both offer CBS (Combined Braking), the Ather also gets switchable traction control. And the Ather’s suspension is on the firmer side for its sportier feel and handling.

    Dimensions

    Specifications

    Ather 450X

    Bajaj Chetak 3501

    Ground clearance

    170mm

    160mm

    Seat height

    780mm

    765mm

    Kerb weight

    111.6kg

    134kg

    Underseat storage

    22-litre

    35-litre

Weight is a big differentiator here. The Ather 450 scooter is significantly lighter, which makes it easier to manoeuvre in traffic and while parking. The Chetak’s all metal body adds to its solid build but also increases overall weight. The seat height is lower on the Chetak, making it more accessible to shorter riders. Ground clearance is fairly close, though the Ather’s slightly higher figure could offer a small advantage over rough urban roads and speed breakers. The Chetak counters with practical touches like a larger underseat storage space and even a lockable glovebox on the apron.

    Feature

    Ather 450X

    Chetak 3501

    5-inch touchscreen TFT

    Ride Modes

4 (Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, Warp)

    2 (Eco, Sport)

    Cruise control

    Yes

    No

This is where the Ather 450X offers a larger touchscreen with extensive smartphone integration and connected features. The Bajaj scooter focuses more on essential smart features but keeps the interface simpler. Navigation, ride data and over-the-air updates are present on both, though the Ather is more feature-rich, it even offers cruise control.

    Price & Verdict

    Ather 450X 3.7kWh

    Chetak 3501

    Rs 1,47,998 to Rs 1,84,998

    Rs 1,22,500

    (all prices ex-showroom Bengaluru)

On paper, the Ather 450X justifies its higher price with stronger performance, lighter weight and a far more advanced feature suite. The Chetak 3501, however, offers solid practicality, a lower seat height and a more affordable price tag, making it appealing for family-focused buyers. If performance and tech are priorities, the Ather looks like the better-equipped option. For those who value simplicity, storage and classic styling, the Chetak remains a sensible alternative.

Hamara bajaj is now hamara chetakev
I had purchased it when ev was new in market, I am very much satisfied. I had drove it for more than 50000 kms with no expense. I had to change only tyres and regular service only one auxiliary battery of Rs. 800 had been changed. I am quiet impressed me and my son both have purchased but there is very less front space between handle and seat to carry extra luggage vegetables or ration need to improve in this area good service staff in patni and Nagpur. I will recommend everyone to go for this ev only. Positive, Very good for local commute, I had recovered all the money spend for purchase, me and my son had not spend a single penny for petrol, very pleasant ride for city and highway also but with limitation of distance. mid age person college boys with huge space in seat box for helmet and laptop girls working women also it's value for money, I had already 2 chetak with me and both vehicle had been run for 50000 and 23000 kms planning to purchase one more for my wife.

      My opinion
It has clean finishing good looking, thin having, good mileage, having better features than any other petrol scooter, it is electric vehicle it is sports scooter so it has modes too fast charging service centre is available. I had done something around 12000 km driven this scooter for long ride it isn't good it is slightly uncomfortable it could give you back pain and scooter may could get heat if you are riding in the summer weather. This scooter isn't for long ride but if you want this for going to college, school or for work it's good vehicle. This scooter looks attractive and has good enough speed to reach the destination. Its good scooter you can go for it if you want.
