BMW’s Aprilia RS 457 rival incoming, and it is absolutely loaded!

    BMW F 450 RR

BMW Motorrad has unveiled its upcoming supersport bike, the F 450 RR. It is basically a fully-faired supersport motorcycle based on the street-naked F 450 R, which was also unveiled a few days back. While it shares its engine, underpinnings and features with the naked streetfighter, the RR gets a sportier design with a front fairing inspired by the flagship S 1000 RR. Here is all you need to know about the BMW F 450 RR.

    Engine And Performance

    BMW F 450 RR

The BMW F 450 RR is powered by the same newly developed 420 cc, parallel-twin engine as the F 450 R and F 450 GS. However, its fully-faired design gives it a more focused supersport appearance, making it an interesting option for riders looking for a sporty middleweight motorcycle. Here too the engine produces 48 PS at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm. It features a 135-degree crankpin offset and a balance shaft, which helps deliver a distinctive engine character while keeping vibrations under control. Interestingly, 80 percent of the maximum torque is available from just 3,000 rpm, which should provide strong mid-range performance for both city riding and highway runs.

     BMW 450 RANGE

The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a left-side chain drive. BMW’s Shift Assistant Pro quickshifter is available on all variants except the base model, while the optional Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) can automatically operate the clutch based on engine speed. Fuel efficiency is rated at 3.8 litres per 100 km (around 26 kmpl), while the motorcycle gets a 14-litre fuel tank.

    Underpinnings

    BMW F 450 RR

The BMW F 450 RR uses a tubular steel space frame, with the engine acting as a stressed member. The road-focused chassis setup and shorter wheelbase are aimed at making the motorcycle agile and responsive. Suspension duties are handled by a 43 mm KYB inverted fork and an aluminium double-sided swingarm with a KYB monoshock at the rear. BMW also offers an optional Sport Suspension, which adds adjustable compression and rebound damping to the front fork, along with adjustable preload and rebound damping for the rear shock.

    BMW 450 RANGE

The motorcycle rides on 17-inch cast-aluminium alloy wheels, wrapped in 110/70-R17 front and 150/60-R17 rear tyres. Braking hardware comprises a 310 mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston caliper and a 240 mm rear disc with a ByBre single-piston caliper.

    S 1000 RR-Inspired Design And Features

    BMW F 450 RR

The biggest difference between the BMW F 450 RR and the F 450 R is their styling. While the naked version gets an aggressive front end inspired by the S1000 R, the RR features a full front fairing inspired by the BMW S1000 RR. The fairing gives it a proper supersport appearance, with a sharp front profile and sporty bodywork. The sculpted fuel tank and compact proportions further complement its aggressive design, while the full-LED lighting setup adds to its modern appearance. To complement its sporty stance the brand has also given it sharp looking winglets, which  are also expected to improve its aerodynamics.

    BME F 450 RR

The F 450 RR gets a 6.5-inch TFT instrument console with connected technology, navigation, music controls and SMS/call alerts. A USB Type-C charging port and heated grips are also part of the package. Electronic aids include Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes, along with ABS Pro, traction control, brake control and engine drag torque control. The higher variants also get Riding Modes Pro and the Shift Assistant Pro quickshifter.

    Variants On Offer

    BMW F 450 RR

The BMW F 450 RR is available in four versions: Base, Sport, M Sport and M Sport with Innovation Package. The top-spec version gets the Easy Ride Clutch, while the M Sport variants add features such as Riding Modes Pro, Shift Assistant Pro and Sport Suspension. The motorcycle also gets a reversible shift pattern, allowing riders to switch to a racing-style gear-shift setup for occasional track use.

    BikeDekho Says

The BMW F 450 RR brings a fully-faired supersport design to the F 450 platform. With a 48 PS parallel-twin engine, premium braking hardware, a feature-rich electronics package and styling inspired by the S 1000 RR, it offers a sportier alternative to the F 450 R. Its combination of accessible performance and premium hardware makes it an interesting option for riders looking for a middleweight sportbike. The F 450 RR is expected to be priced at around Rs 4.80 lakh (ex-showroom) in India and will rival the Aprilia RS 457 and the Kawasaki Ninja 500.
