BREAKING: Upcoming BMW F 450 R Unveiled Globally
This tempting looking streetfighter surely looks like a slightly scaled-down version of the S1000 R

BMW Motorrad has unveiled the new F 450 R, which is a middleweight naked streetfighter. Based on the same technical platform as the F 450 GS, the F 450 R gets road-focused chassis tuning, a sporty design inspired by the bigger S 1000 R and a 420 cc parallel-twin engine. Here is all you need to know:
Engine And Performance

The BMW F 450 R is powered by the same newly developed 420 cc, parallel-twin engine seen in the F 450 GS. However, BMW has tuned it specifically for road riding and equipped it with a stainless-steel under-belly exhaust system. The engine produces 48 PS at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm. It uses a 135-degree crankpin offset and a balance shaft, which BMW says gives it a distinctive character while keeping vibrations under control. Interestingly, 80 percent of the maximum torque is available from just 3,000 rpm, due to which the bike should provide for a strong midrange grunt.

There is a six-speed gearbox and left-side chain drive. BMW’s Shift Assistant Pro or quickshifter, is available on all variants except the base model, while the optional Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) can automatically operate the clutch based on engine speed. Fuel efficiency is rated at 3.8 litres per 100 km (around 26 kmpl), while it gets a 14-litre fuel tank.
Sporty Underpinnings

The F 450 R uses a tubular steel space frame with the engine acting as a stress-member. BMW has given it a shorter wheelbase and road-specific chassis tuning aimed at making the motorcycle agile and easy to handle. Suspension duties are handled by a 43 mm KYB inverted fork, and an aluminium double-sided swingarm with a KYB monoshock at the rear. There will also be an optional Sport Suspension that will add adjustable compression and rebound damping to the front fork, while the rear shock will get adjustable preload and rebound damping.

The bike rides on 17-inch cast-aluminium alloy wheels, wrapped with Eurogrip Protorq Extreme styres, 110/70-ZR17 front and 150/60-ZR17 rear. Braking hardware includes a 310 mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston caliper, and a 240 mm rear disc with a ByBre single-piston caliper. The standard seat height is 790 mm, while BMW will offer optional seats that can raise or lower the riding position by 20 mm and 15 mm, respectively.
S 1000 R-Inspired Design And Features

Visually, the F 450 R takes inspiration from BMW’s flagship S 1000 R. It gets a compact, aggressive front end with a full-LED lighting setup, while the sculpted fuel tank and exposed mechanical components give it a sporty naked-bike appearance. There is a 6.5-inch TFT console with connected tech and offers navigation, music controls, SMS/call alerts and more. There is also a USB-C port and heated grips as standard. Electronics include Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes, along with ABS Pro, traction control, brake control and engine drag torque control.
Four Variants On Offer

BMW will offer the F 450 R in four versions: Base, Exclusive, M Sport and M Sport with Innovation Package. The latter gets the Easy Ride Clutch, while M Sport versions also feature Riding Modes Pro, Shift Assistant Pro and Sport Suspension. The motorcycle also gets a reversible shift pattern, allowing riders to switch to a racing-style setup for occasional track use. That said, BMW did not launch the M Sport version of the F 450 GS, and the same could happen with the F 450 R as well.
BikeDekho Says
The BMW F 450 R brings the F 450 platform into the street-naked segment with a strong focus on low weight, sporty handling and everyday usability. With 48 PS from a compact 420 cc twin, premium hardware and S 1000 R-inspired styling, it will be positioned as BMW’s road-focused, most affordable bike in the lineup. It could be launched globally by the mid of 2027, and is expected to be priced at around Rs 4.60 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched in India, it will compete with the Aprilia Tuono 457.
