The bike’s official launch was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic

The BS5 FZ-25 will be available across India from today. The FZS-25 will follow suit later.  The FZS gets a couple of extra features over the standard model. Both bikes are powered by the same 249cc air-cooled engine.

After what feels like an eternity, Yamaha has unveiled the price of the BS6-compliant FZ-25 and FZS-25. The standard FZ-25 is priced at Rs 152,100 and will be available across India starting today. However, the FZS-25 which retails at Rs 157,100 is expected to follow suit later. The standard model commands a premium of Rs 17,420 over its BS4 counterpart priced at 1,34,680 (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The two models are available in five liveries, details of which are mentioned below.

Both bikes are powered by a BS6-compliant 249cc air-cooled and fuel-injected motor which makes 20.8PS at 8000rpm and 20.1Nm at 6000rpm. That’s just 0.1PS and 0.1Nm less than its BS4 predecessor. That said, the larger catalytic converter adds 1kg to the bike’s total weight of 152kg.  

It's not different in terms of hardware either. You have telescopic forks, monoshock and disc brakes at both ends measuring in at 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc with standard dual-channel ABS.

What sets the 2020 model apart is the new LED projector headlamp which should hopefully offer better illumination compared to the previous LED unit. The FZ-25 also gets a slightly more premium ‘S’ variant which comes with a larger windscreen and knuckle guards to make it more touring friendly. The BS6 Yamaha FZ-25 primarily competes against the Suzuki Gixxer 250, Bajaj Dominar 250, and KTM 250 Duke. However, if we were to consider its price, it also takes on the Pulsar RS200, Ather 450 Plus, and the R15 V3.
