The ageing Aprilia SXR160 is finally replaced by the SXR GT 175 hp-e, and here’s how it fares against its key rival

Aprilia SXR GT 175 hp-e vs Hero Xoom 160

Aprilia has just revived its maxi-style scooter line-up with the SXR GT range, and the SXR GT 175 hp-e is the one that goes up against the Hero Xoom 160. While the SXR GT 175 is a maxi-style scooter thanks to the flat floorboard, the Xoom is a proper maxi-scooter with a central spine. Both scooters are aimed at buyers who want a powerful scooter that’s practical and also has a good road presence. Here is how they compare.

Aprilia SXR GT 175 hp-e: Bigger But Simpler Engine, Fancier Console

Aprilia SXR GT 175 hp-e Design

The Aprilia SXR GT 175 hp-e is the successor to the older SXR 160 and is built on the same platform as the SR 175. It gets a 174.7 cc, air-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 13.26 PS and 14.14 Nm. It is available in three colours: Metallic Blue, Matte Black and Matte Green.

The big upgrade over the old SXR is the move to 14-inch alloy wheels, up from 12-inch. Suspension includes a telescopic fork and a single shock absorber at the rear. Braking is via a 220 mm front disc and a 140 mm rear drum, with single-channel ABS.

In terms of features, the SXR GT 175 gets a 5-inch TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity, call and music controls and turn-by-turn navigation.

    Hero Xoom 160: Liquid-Cooled, Feature-Packed

     Hero Xoom 160 Design

The Hero Xoom 160 has a more adventure-inspired look, with a large flyscreen, twin-chamber LED headlamps and block-pattern tyres on 14-inch alloy wheels. It is available in four colours: Matte Rainforest Green, Canyon Red, Summit White and Matte Volcanic Grey.

It is powered by a 156 cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve single-cylinder engine paired with a CVT. The motor makes 14.81 PS and 14 Nm, which is around 1.5 PS more than the Aprilia, although torque is nearly identical. Kerb weight is 142 kg and the fuel tank holds 7 litres. The Xoom also gets a fairly accessible 787 mm seat height and 155 mm of ground clearance.

Brake includes a 240 mm front disc and a rear drum, with single-channel ABS. Suspension includes a telescopic fork and dual rear shock absorbers. Feature-wise, the Xoom gets keyless ignition, i3S idle start-stop, all-LED lighting, a USB charging port and Bluetooth-enabled console with turn-by-turn navigation. However, this console is an LCD unit rather than a TFT.

    BikeDekho Says

The SXR GT 175 hp-e is the cheaper pick by about Rs 15,000, and will appeal to those who like Italian styling and the practicality of a flat floorboard. If you value pure performance, authentic maxi-scooter look and premium features, then the Xoom 160 is the one for you.
