Is the scooter ready to compete with the 125cc offerings in India?
Yamaha has launched the 2026 RS Neo in Taiwan. Itis a sporty-looking scooter and is priced at TWD 80,000 (approximately Rs 2.38 lakh). Here is what you need to know about it:
Design
The RS Neo is a rather compact scooter. While it has a sharp styling, it doesn’t seem too bold. It has well-defined proportions that make it easy to look at. It gets a simple halogen headlight but sleek and long indicators on the front. On the rear, it gets a taillight inspired by the Yamaha R1, and LED indicators. It seems to have a decent floorboard space, and the cubby on the front apron looks okay too. That said, the seat seems quite wide and long. Adding to its looks are the three-spoke wheels on both ends.
Engine
The Yamaha RS Neo is equipped with a 125cc air-cooled engine producing 7.4PS and 9Nm. It’s not the most powerful, but it seems it’s been tuned for mileage. It has a claimed mileage of 57.9kmpl, which is quite nice for a scooter – should give a range of about 200km, considering it only has a 4-litre tank.

The scooter rolls on 10-inch alloy wheels. It gets a conventional fork and an offset monoshock. The biggest highlight of the scooter has to be its kerb weight – 93kg – which should make it really easy to move around. Its light weight should also make it quite nimble on the road. It has a seat height of 735mm which is quite accessible – in fact, it’s slightly lower than that of the Avenger 220.
It gets a disc brake at the front and drum at the rear, with a combined braking system; pretty much standard for its segment.
Features
The RS Neo has a simple set of features – it gets an LCD console shows time, a speedometer, and an odometer – no Bluetooth connectivity Additionally, it gets a USB Type-A port to charge your phone.

The compact proportions, a fuel-efficient engine, and its light weight would make for a really good scooter option in India. However, it would never work at the price. Yamaha would have to heavily localise the scooter and make it cost less than half of what it is right now. If they can manage to do that, it would become such an easy option for someone looking for a no-frills scooter. Until then, we would have to stick to scooters like the Suzuki Access 125 and the TVS Jupiter 125.
