Update: Honda has launched the new Activa 125. Read more details here

While we already know that the upcoming Activa 125 will be BS6-compliant, here's what else we expect it to pack

With new emission norms all set to kick in from next year, bikemakers are gearing up to add BS6-ready/compliant models to their lineups. And Japanese bikemaker, Honda will be the first manufacturer to launch a BS6-compliant two-wheeler this year. The company sent out an invite which said “First BS6 two-wheeler”, and we’ve come to know that the upcoming two-wheeler is going to be a scooter. Back in March, a test mule was spotted near the ARAI facility and a closer look at it reveals that it is likely to be the new Activa 125. We take a closer look at the 2019 Activa 125 to give you a fair idea of what you can expect.

It will look somewhat similar to the current model

We don’t expect the new Activa 125 to get an all-new design. Instead, Honda might just tweak the styling to make it look fresh. The upcoming scooter could get a new set of graphics and some new paint options, to help it stand out from the current-gen scooter. Other minute design-based changes include a new grab rail and a slightly redesigned front end.

It’ll get some new features as well

Expect the upcoming scooter to feature the same set of features like LED headlamp, USB charger and 4-in-1 lock with seat opening switch as the current model. However, the new Activa 125 might get Honda’s Idle Stop System, which is similar to Hero’s i3S (Idle-Stop-Start System) technology. This feature cuts off the engine when the scooter is idle for more than three seconds. It is switched back on when the rider presses the brake lever.

Will get a fuel-injected BS6-compliant engine

The 125cc mill will be the same as the current Activa 125. This motor produces 8.6PS of power and 10.54Nm of torque. Since the new Activa 125 will be BS6-compliant, we expect Honda to add a fuel-injection system. The new Fi system should also result in a slightly smoother power delivery than the current model.

Underpinnings to remain the same

Other than the addition of a BS6-compliant engine, the new Activa 125 may not receive any major mechanical change. The standard variant is equipped with a telescopic fork up front and a monoshock at the rear. It is also likely to feature the same brake setup as well (190mm disc - front, 130mm drum unit- rear).

Will get a slight price hike

There’s still no confirmation on the price yet, but the upcoming Activa 125 is expected to be priced between Rs 63,000 and Rs 68,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The current model retails at Rs 60,346, which will make the new Activa 125 around Rs 3,000 more expensive than the current scooter. At this price, the upcoming Activa 125 could be around Rs 5,000 more expensive than its main rivals, the TVS NTorq 125 (Rs 58,252) and the newly-launched Maestro Edge 125 (Rs 58,500) (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
