Ducati India will launch 3 bikes from its international range

Ducati will launch its 2019 range in India on April 26. It will get the Scrambler Icon, Cafe Racer and Desert Sled first, Full Throttle later this year. All the bikes get cosmetic updates, new features and cornering ABS.  Expected to be priced around Rs 30,000-40,000 over their respective predecessors.

Ducati is set to launch its 2019 Scrambler range in India on April 26. While the Italian brand already sells the new Scrambler Icon, Cafe Racer, Full Throttle and Desert Sled abroad, we will get the Icon, Cafe Racer and Desert Sled first. The Full Throttle will be launched later this year.

For 2019, the bikes get minor cosmetic updates in the form of new X-shaped headlamp lens, LED turn indicators, machine-finished alloy wheels, and new fuel tank side panels that can be swapped for different styles. New features include updated switchgear, adjustable levers, optional Ducati Multimedia System (Bluetooth) and an updated instrument console that now includes a gear position indicator and fuel gauge.

While the motor remains unchanged, the new Scramblers now get a hydraulic clutch which reduces clutch effort significantly. All new Scramblers continue to be powered by the same 803cc air-cooled L-twin motor that makes 74PS and 67Nm of torque. The powertrain setup includes a six-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch.

The bikes get a new suspension setup tuned for comfort and a new, more comfortable seat. However, the biggest update is the inclusion of Bosch cornering ABS, which should improve safety while braking in corners.

Given the number of updates, we expect the new Scramblers to carry a premium of around Rs 30,000-40,000 over the current Scrambler range that starts at Rs 7.28 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).  While the Ducati Scrambler Icon competes with the Triumph Street Twin, the Cafe Racer provides a more affordable alternative to the Triumph Thruxton. The Scrambler Desert Sled doesn’t have any real competitor and its closest rival is the Triumph Street Scrambler.
