Jupiter Expert Review

The TVS Jupiter has been a popular scooter in India for years, consistently being among the best selling scooters in the country, and for good reason. The Jupiter offers convenience and practicality while also being stylish. Here’s how the TVS Jupiter feels in the real world:

TVS Jupiter Review Overview

Design

The design of the TVS Jupiter is about a decade old but the scooter still manages to look fresh, sleek and stylish. The scooter does not get many flashy stickers or liveries like the TVS NTorq 125, but still looks elegant and clean. The scooter comes in 6 different variants but the differences in design are minimal.

TVS Jupiter Review Design

The SMW and base variant come with blacked out interior panels and a single tone seat. The ZX variants feature interior panels that are beige and get dual tone seats which gives the scooter a more classic look.

TVS Jupiter Review Variants

Lastly there’s the Jupiter Classic, which incorporates many classic design elements that makes the scooter stand out from the other variants. It comes with a full-analogue instrument cluster, chocolate-brown interior panels, leatherette seats along with a tinted windshield giving it a premium, retro look.

Engine, Mileage & Performance

TVS Jupiter is powered by a 109.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 7.88PS at 7500rpm and 8.8Nm at 5500rpm. The engine is very refined and offers really good ride quality, but at low speeds there’s a bit of roughness as vibrations start creeping in. This isn’t an issue as it fades away as you reach speeds of up to 35-40kmph. The scooter was able to offer a real-world mileage of 64.1kmpl in our tests which is quite decent.

TVS Jupiter Review Mileage And Performance

The only downside of the engine is that the 110cc motor won’t be able to handle highway riding as it cannot sustain speeds above 70kmph for a long period of time. Other than that, the scooter overall has decent engine performance.

Handling & Ride Quality

The Jupiter is able to handle rough roads well thanks to the soft suspension setup and a 3-step preload adjustable monoshock, which you can adjust according to your weight and preference. The scooter remains composed even when going over bad bumps.

TVS Jupiter Review Braking And Handling

Coming to handling, the scooter is easily able to cut through traffic and the 12-inch wheels feel very agile when taking turns. The TVS Jupiter is able to stay composed even when cornering at higher speeds which is quite impressive. Depending on the variant, you can get either a 220mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum, with CBS (combined braking system) as standard, the brakes provide adequate feedback.

Comfort

The TVS Jupiter gives the rider an upright and comfortable riding posture. There’s enough legroom for even taller riders and the seat cushioning is good. The 12-inch wheels are able to ensure that the scooter is able to glide through poor roads smoothly. The higher end variants of the scooter like the Classic and the ZX Disc SmartXonnect variant comes with a pillion backrest for added comfort. The pillion backrest is sturdy and also adds a bit of premiumness to these variants as well.

Features

All variants of the TVS Jupiter come with LED headlight, an external fuel filler cap, pass-light switch and alloy wheels, except the Sheet Metal Wheel variant (SMW). There’s also a standard USB charging port on the apron and customers can also opt for an under-seat USB charging port. The base variant of the Jupiter features an analogue instrument cluster while the ZX variant gets a semi-digital unit.

ZX SmartXonnect variants (Disc and Drum) come with a LCD display with smartphone connectivity via the TVS SmartXonnect app offering voice assist and turn-by-turn navigation along with call and SMS alerts. The Classic variant on the other hand still has an analogue unit keeping in line with its retro character. With many variants with different features and functionalities, customers have greater choice.

Should you buy TVS Jupiter

The TVS Jupiter is a dependable scooter that provides decent mileage and also offers practical features. The performance might not be the best but the scooter still continues to offer an easy and hassle free riding experience, which is the most important aspect when looking for a family scooter.

TVS Jupiter Review Verdict

Overall the Jupiter is a good choice if you are looking for something that is simple, reliable and feature-packed. But if you really need more performance with even better practicality, then check out the TVS Jupiter 125.
