Yamaha has entered the 125cc segment with the Fascino 125 and Ray ZR 125. Besides an all-new BS6-compliant 125cc motor, the scooters get a host of cosmetic features and mechanical updates. Here are 5 important details about the sportier Ray ZR 125:

All-new Bodywork:

The  Ray ZR 125 gets a larger and edgier front apron with the turn indicators relocated to the top. It has an all-new handlebar apron, which gets an LED DRL in the shape of Yamaha’s MT logo. Above it sits a premium-looking dark-tinted flyscreen. The tail section bodywork is now larger while the new tail lamp is wider as well. Even the grabrail has been updated and is smaller and more usable now. Overall, the Ray ZR 125 looks larger and sportier than the 113cc Ray ZR.

Street Rally Variant Extensively Updated:

Like the smaller Ray ZR, the 125cc scooter gets a sporty Street Rally variant. However, the Ray ZR 125 gets more than just cosmetic updates. It gets different colours, new graphics, red rim tapes, silver-finished body panels and red-painted shock absorber. It also gets dual-purpose Maxxis tyres that should work well on loose road surfaces. Read how the Street Rally variant is different from the Std variant here.

New Features:

While the Ray ZR 125 misses out on an LED headlamp and LED tail lamp, it gets an LED DRL. It now gets a full-digital instrument console and remote opening boot lock, which can be accessed via the ignition key slot. Like the BS6 Activa 125, the Ray ZR 125 gets a starter motor generator for silent starts and start-stop technology. It also gets a side stand engine cutoff switch, which will be made standard across all future Yamaha products.

New 125cc motor:

Yamaha will be replacing its 113cc scooter lineup with the new 125cc motor. The all-new BS6-compliant motor delivers 8.2PS and 9.7Nm, which is 1PS and 1.6Nm higher than Yamaha’s 113cc motor. Along with being more powerful, Yamaha claims the 125cc motor delivers 58kmpl making it 16 per cent more fuel efficient as well.

New underpinnings:

The new Ray ZR 125 gets a larger 12-inch front wheel in place of the 10-inch one on the 110cc scooter. It also gets alloy wheels and an optional front disc brake.

The new Ray ZR 125 series will launch in February 2020 and is expected to carry a premium of Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 over the 113cc Ray ZR variants. That would put the estimated starting price at around Rs 69,000 (ex-showroom).
