Let's find out if the additional 3.9PS and 2.3Nm make the Aerox 155 any better than the SR 160 Race in the real world

In September last year, we witnessed the launch of the Yamaha Aerox 155; and just a month later, Aprilia also introduced the updated version of the SR160. While on paper there's a slight difference in the power figures of both the scooters, let's find out how they fare in the real world.

Acceleration:
The Yamaha Aerox 155 is powered by a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, YZF-R15-derived engine that puts out 15PS at 8,000rpm and 13.9Nm at 6,500rpm, which is 3.9PS and 2.3Nm more than what the Aprilia SR160 Race makes. The difference isn’t surprising considering the Aerox’s heart is much more sophisticated than the SR160 Race’s air-cooled engine. While we talk about straight-line acceleration, the weight of the two-wheelers also plays a vital role. However, even after weighing 8kg more than the SR160, the Aerox 155 has performed better. As you can see, the SR160 has come pretty close to the Aerox 155 in the 0-40kmph acceleration test, and that's largely because of its weak low-end grunt.

Roll-On Acceleration:
Though the SR160's engine delivers the peak power and peak torque quite early, the Aerox 155 has still managed to perform better in the roll-on test. A few more horses have helped the Aerox 155 here as well. The Aerox also has the advantage of VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) tech that ensures a strong midrange grunt.

Fuel Efficiency:
Surprisingly, even after weighing less and putting out lesser power and torque, the Aprilia SR160 has still failed to perform better than the Yamaha Aerox 155 in our mileage test. The SR160 also gets a bigger 6-litre fuel tank, as compared to the 5.5-litre unit on the Aerox 155.
