Here’s an electric scooter from Vietnam called the VinFast Theon S, designed by renowned Austrian design agency, Kiska. It’s the same agency that has worked with brands like KTM, Husqvarna, CFMoto and Chetak.

It’s no surprise that this scooter looks absolutely rad, designed to stand out in the midst of conventional scooters. From the vertically stacked projector headlamps upfront (similar to the 690 Duke) to the sweeping rear, this scooter showcases balanced aesthetics.

Underneath its eye-catching skin, is a mid-mounted powerful 3.5kW electric motor, with a peak power output of 7.1kW, paired to the rear wheel with a chain drive system. This motor provides a top speed of 99kmph. Complementing  this potent motor are two removable 49.6 Ah Samsung Lithium batteries that provide a total capacity of 3.5kWh. This translates to a claimed range of 101km, while the charging time is said to be 5-6 hours.

The Theon S is also loaded to the brim with features to make it a true smart scooter. It is equipped with a digital display with Bluetooth for smartphone and GPS connectivity. It also comes with a smartphone app that provides information on battery monitoring, ride history, and live location of the scooter.

It also gets Phone As A Key (PAAK) technology for an one-touch vehicle control via the phone app without a key, along with an advanced anti-theft system, keyless start and remote activation and deactivation.

Underpinnings of the Theon S consist of Showa telescopic fork and dual rear shock absorbers. Braking duties are shared by Nissin disc brakes at both ends, with the safety net of ABS for optimal braking performance. It rolls on 16-inch alloys wrapped in 100-section front and 120-section rear tubeless tires.

Priced at Vietnamese Dong 6,99,00,000 (approx. Rs 2.37 lakh), and with the batteries being sold separately for an additional 1,72,00,000 Dong (around Rs 58,000), this scooter ends up becoming too expensive for the Indian market.  Premium e-scooters in India include the Ather 450X Gen 3, Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube and the upcoming Simple One.
