TVS XL 100 vs Honda CT 125: Specifications Comparison

How does Honda’s newest moped stack up against our homegrown runabout?

How does Honda’s newest moped stack up against our homegrown runabout?

At last year’s Tokyo Motor Show, Honda had showcased its off-road moped concept. Now, leaked images reveal that the upcoming production CT 125 will be very close to the concept. We also have a similar product in our backyard in the form of the TVS XL100. Here’s how our homegrown hero stacks up against Honda’s global product on paper.

The CT 125 is expected to share its underpinnings with the Honda Super Cub 125 sold overseas. It makes more power than the XL100 owing to not just its extra cubic capacity but also fuel injection. The CT 125’s powerband can be accessed better thanks to its 4-speed gearbox. However, the XL100 feels like an automatic scooter since you do not need to change gears. While the Honda CT 125 offers better performance, the XL100 is easier to ride.

Like all mopeds, both the CT 125 and XL 100 use an underbone frame. They have similar suspension setup but the CT 125 gets superior braking in the form of a front disc brake and ABS. It also gets larger 17-inch wheels with dual-purpose tyres that should help it clear obstacles with ease. The XL100’s tyres are made for better load-bearing capability and get the heavy-duty suspension to match. So while the CT 125 offers some form of sportiness, the XL 100 gets purely utilitarian underpinnings.

The Honda CT 125 gets modern features in the form of all-LED lighting and a circular digital instrument console. On the other hand, the utilitarian XL 100 gets affordable bulb-type lighting and an analogue readout consisting of a speedometer. Given its sporty offroad focus, the CT 125 also gets a high-mounted airbox intake as well as a high-mounted exhaust pipe. The XL 100 gets a dual seat layout where the rear seat can be taken out making way for a flat parcel tray. In terms of features, the CT 125 focuses on sportiness while the XL 100 leans towards utility.

Honda will soon launch the CT 125 overseas, but we don’t see the sporty moped coming to our shores anytime soon. If Honda were to launch it here, it could be positioned as an entry-level lifestyle scooterette above the now discontinued Cliq. Now the XL 100 has been TVS’s trusty workhorse for decades and we do not see the moped being discontinued anytime soon. Interestingly, at TVS’s Moto Soul event, the company showcased a lifestyle version of the XL 100 called the XL 100 Goa edition. It remains to be seen if TVS launches the Goa edition in India.

It is very comfortable for driving and its cost is very cheap. Also it is very simple bike for daily use because, it is very smooth bike with zero repair cost. It is very easy is to handle. So don't very about any issues. It is very comfortable to ride. I'm uisng this bike from last 10 year. It's mileage is very good approx 60 kilometre per litre. And easy to handle. The wheels is bigger than scooter. Also its weight is low. It is very good bike for daily office use and also for family. If you are teacher, business man, office staff or gig worker etc. it is for you. Only one thing is missing it does not look good compare to other bikes for making fashion.Read More

Review on TVS XL10 0

My father brought this bike because he don't want gear one. This give the best mileage in the non gear segment. Less maintenance needed for this bike and light weight of the bike frame is easy to handle when it's static. I don't face any kind of issue. Some things I had to repair but is very common like spark plug carbon, some time horn wire got lose that all. Young genz may not like it because of this style. But yes safety factor is neglect in this bike if any accident gonna happened, I think there might be a problem. Any vendor or village uncle who shifted cycle to motor bike, so this would be perfect choice for you. It can carry a large no of weight. Due to light weight of this bike, it's very easy to move. Perfect for village road and not recommended for off-roads but it's easy to carry this bike in farming field.Read More

Very Useful for Daily Work

l bought this vehicle mainly for daily use and local work. l am using TVS XL 100 from last few months and my overall experience is good. This vehicle is very helpful for daily use and small work purpose. Engine is smooth and reliable, no problem till now. I mostly ride it on local roads and village side roads, and it runs easily even on bad patches. Mileage is very nice and saves fuel cost, which is important for daily riding. I use it for going market, short travel and sometimes carrying light load also. Suspension is okay for this type of vehicle and gives comfortable ride for short distance. Maintenance is low and service center is easily available nearby. Look is simple but strong, build quality feels solid. Overall TVS XL100 is best option for people who want simple, economical and hardworking vehicle.Read More

TVS XL 100 HONEST REVIEW

The retro style touch inspired to buy it, The first look of this bike is different from other bikes, It has unique design and big wheels compared to scooters huge leg space and perfect posture for riding the bike. Comfort level is slightly reduced, compared to other modern bike it is lightly less comfort otherwise a great choice, not for the traditional bikers or scooter riders, maintenance cost is quite low to handle it in budget. Person who like retro style or old school design, I would highly recommend them, honestly the mileage is good and overall bike good but one cons is comfort, otherwise nice choice for daily commuters full marks for styling.Read More
