TVS Apache RTR 310: What To Expect

That’s right, there’s a second TVS-BMW motorcycle in the making. So here’s we could expect

That’s right, there’s a second TVS-BMW motorcycle in the making. So here’s we could expect

  • It is expected to be a naked streetfighter with the RTR tag.
  • It will share its engine and underpinnings with the RR 310.
  • The naked streetfighter could go on sale next year.

At the launch of the BS6 Apache RR 310, TVS President and CEO K.N. Radhakrishnan confirmed that there's a second TVS-BMW motorcycle in the making. Set to go on sale in 2021, we expect the motorcycle to bear the RTR badge just like other streetfighters from the Hosur-based brand. So here's what you could expect from the upcoming motorcycle.

Powertrain:

Well, it’s obvious, isn’t it? The RTR 310 could share its motor with the RR 310 which comes equipped with a 312.2cc motor mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. The motor was recently updated to meet BS6 emission norms and fortunately, it continues to put out the same power and torque figures as before - 34PS and 27.3Nm.

But that's not all. The addition of ride-by-wire throttle has resulted in the faired motorcycle gaining four ride modes - Rain, Urban, Sport and Track - that alter the engine output and ABS maps. We believe these features could be transferred to the RTR 310 as well.

Shared mechanical components:

Likewise, the RR’s underpinnings, which make it an exceptional handler, are also expected to be carried over to the RTR. This includes its potent trellis frame with an upside down front fork and rear monoshock. Even the disc brakes aided by dual-channel ABS could be carried forward. And TVS would do well to equip the RTR with the same Michelin Road 5 tyres it now offers on the fully faired motorcycle as it offers tremendous grip in both wet and dry surfaces.

What may change though is the riding posture. Since the RTR 310 will be pegged as a streetfighter, expect it to be equipped with taller handlebars, a flatter seat and more forward-set footpegs. That said, the absence of a windscreen could pose problems on the highway.

Design & Features:

Yet another feature that we hope makes it to the RTR 310 is the new TFT colour screen which gets Bluetooth connectivity and control cubes on the left-hand-side switchgear. The console offers information such as speed, navigation, cellular notifications, odometer, gear shift indicator, best lap recorder, G-force sensor, ride pattern analysis, and much more.

The biggest difference between the two bikes could be in their design. Unlike the RR 310, which is a supersport, the RTR 310 could feature a butch and muscular design language with sharp tank extensions and an aggressive stance. It may also feature a full LED headlight just like the RTR 200 4V.

Price:

Considering the Apache RR 310 is priced at Rs 2.40 lakh, we believe the upcoming RTR could be priced between Rs 2.10 lakh and Rs 2.15 lakh. That should help it undercut its rivals such as the KTM 390 Duke BS6, BMW G 310 R, Honda CB300R and Benelli TNT 300. If TVS manages to pull this off, the RTR 310 could offer the best value for money proposition in its segment.

Ideal choice

This bike is like the cool kid in school for youth or naked bike lovers! It's so smooth,, and it shifts like a pro even when you're just cruising. a good ideal bike for youth or who like bikes. I will describe it as “butter‑smooth,” functioning flawlessly at any level, Even at slow speeds, shifts are clean and fatigue-free, enhancing the ride experience during traffic .Braking setup offers strong performance, though initial bite can feel a bit soft .Loaded with features: riding modes, cruise control, cooled seat & traction control. The cooled seat is unique. Read More
