Royal Enfield’s much-anticipated adventure motorcycle, the Himalayan 750, has been spotted testing once again. It was spied in Tamil Nadu, and here’s everything you need to know:
Expected Price And Launch Timeline
The Himalayan 750 is still some time away from launch. We think it could be unveiled and launched in the middle of next year. Royal Enfield will want to keep the pricing competitive as it is meant to be a cheaper alternative to other middleweight adventure tourers.
Rivals
Interestingly, all options in this segment in India – the Kawasaki Versys 650, Triumph Tiger Sport 660, and Moto Morini X-Cape 650 – have liquid-cooled engines. Having a relatively less complicated air-oil-cooled engine in the Himalayan 750 means Royal Enfield could (hopefully) price it at a starting point of around Rs 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom), taking into account the new GST 2.0 rules.
Design And Styling
The Himalayan 750 this time had fuel tank braces and engine crash guards – which were not present in the earlier spy shots. Also present is the semi-faring, tall windscreen (likely to be adjustable), wide handlebars, split-seats, grab rails, luggage mounts, upswept exhaust, and tail lights integrated into the indicators. The shape of the rear view mirror is also different, a fresh change compared to the circular mirrors we usually see on most of the Royal Enfield bikes – we quite like this one.
New 750cc Parallel-Twin Engine
At the heart of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 will be a 750cc parallel-twin air-and-oil cooled engine. It’ll be derived from the existing 650cc motor and is expected to make 50-55PS and 60Nm, paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.
Chassis, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels
This Royal Enfield adventure bike will use a new chassis as it has a completely different purpose when compared to the other 750cc bikes that were spied: the Interceptor 750 and Continental GT 750. This particular variant comes with what looks like 17-inch alloy wheels with highway touring-friendly tyres at both ends.
There’s also another variant with spoke wheels that was spotted in Europe earlier. The Himalayan 750 gets an inverted fork and monoshock – both likely fully adjustable. Notably, the bike was seen with a remote preload adjuster at the rear this time around. This should make it convenient to adjust the suspension without requiring tools. It will also have dual front disc brakes – a first for the brand, a necessity considering the extra power and weight.
Features And Electronics
The new bike will get the round TFT console from the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. This display has Bluetooth connectivity, full Google maps navigation, and phone alerts. Reports also suggest it’ll feature multiple ride modes, traction control, cruise control, and switchable ABS. Convenience features such as a USB Type-C charging port are also expected.
In other news, Royal Enfield has been working on a more off-road capable variant of the Himalayan 450, and it could be launched very soon. We think the upcoming bike will be a really good companion for riders who do frequent Ladakh trips.
