Honda Shine 125 Drum: Detailed Explainer

Does the Drum variant of Honda Shine 125 miss on features? We explain

The Honda Shine 125 Drum is one of the highest-selling bikes of the segment and comes with a well-known brand tag and a basic package that does not cost much. Let’s explore what the drum variant of Honda Shine 125, with an ex-showroom price of Rs 82,722 offers:

Design & Styling

Selecting the less expensive Drum model does not imply any reduction in the looks, as the Shine 125 Drum adopts all the same aesthetics as the Disc model. It is equipped with an elegant chrome visor, chrome details on the side panels, and a chrome muffler panel.

With six colour options available, including Decent Blue Metallic and Rebel Red Metallic, buyers of the Drum variant get the full styling package without paying extra.

Features

Honda has been generous with the features on the base Shine 125. The bike includes a new fully digital instrument cluster that shows real-time mileage, range, a gear position indicator, and a service reminder. It also gets Honda's Idling Stop System (ISS) to save fuel in traffic and a silent ACG (Alternating Current Generator) starter that removes the traditional starter motor noise. The only notable feature difference is the USB-C charging port. While the Disc variant gets a 15W USB-C charger as standard, it's an optional extra on the Drum variant. For riders who rely on their phone for navigation, this is an extra cost to consider.

Engine & Performance

Here's the best news for anyone considering the Drum variant: there is no difference in performance. It uses the exact same 123.94cc, fuel-injected engine as the top-end variant and is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. Since the engine, power, and torque are identical, choosing the Drum variant is purely a decision about hardware, not performance.

Safety & Hardware

The braking hardware is the defining difference between the Shine 125's variants. The Drum model uses a 130 mm drum brake at the front, matched with a 130 mm drum at the rear. While a front drum brake doesn't offer the same sharp feel as a disc brake, Honda has equipped it with CBS (Combi-Brake System). This system links the front and rear brakes, helping to reduce stopping distances and improve stability under braking.

The bike includes a side-stand indicator with an engine cut-off function. A ground clearance of 162 mm and a 1285 mm wheelbase further contribute to stable handling on Indian roads.

BikeDekho Says

Honda Shine 125 Drum is the best bet for those cost-conscious buyers who prefer a modern motor over superior braking power. It is an excellent option for everyday drivers and first-time buyers who wish to purchase a reliable Honda without spending beyond their limits.
