Honda 2Wheelers, which began operations in India back in 1999, has announced that it has crossed the 40 million sales milestone. Not only has the Japanese two-wheeler giant managed to achieve this feat within a span of just 18 years, it also set a record as the fastest manufacturer to do so!

The company was quick to gain its first 10 million customers within 11 years. Fast forward three years from then and the bikemaker raked in another 10 million, three times faster than the previous time frame. In the next four years, Honda sold another 20 million motorcycles and scooters. In contrast, the first 20 million sales took a total of 14 years.

Honda set its foundation in India with the Activa in the scooter segment. What started out as a small step into the Indian two-wheeler space soon branched out into different segments. Currently, the company has a huge portfolio of bikes and scooters in India. This extends from its highest-selling two-wheelers, the Activa and the CB Shine, to the litre-class superbike, the CBR1000RR. Additionally, Honda India has become the number one contributor to the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer’s global sales as well.

Here’s the official statement  from the manufacturer.
