The Honda Metropolitan will be the Japanese two-wheeler giant's rival for the Yamaha Fascino which has been raking good sales figure

The Yamaha Fascino has been a turn around product for Yamaha and showcased the fact that there is a huge appetite among Indian buyers for a stylish scooter. The forte of the Yamaha Fascino is its retro-modern styling similar to the Vespa while being offered at a considerably cheaper price. The scooter king of the Indian market seems to have taken notice of this fact and is planning to launch its own version of a retro-modern styled scooter. According to reports Honda has patented the Metropolis scooter for the Indian market.

As we can see that the Honda Metropolitan has a more curvaceous body lines as opposed to sharp lines which are the norm of the segment. The round shaped headlight with the chrome housing looks good while the handlebar mounted retro styled turn indicators hikes the cool factor. The international-spec model gets a chunky multispoke alloy wheels but whether the same comes to India remains questionable for cost cutting purpose. Chrome has been used generously on the grab rail, rear light and indicators.

The international-spec model gets a 50cc motor but for the Indian model we can expect the Metropolitan to get equipped with the tried and trusted 110cc air-cooled motor delivering 8PS and 8.8Nm of torque. Braking will be done by drum brakes on both the ends while CBS will be a standard fitment. The Honda Metropolitan gets telescopic front forks and monoshock unit at the rear. We can expect the Honda Metropolitan to be launched in India by late 2016 with an estimated price of around Rs 53,000 ex-showroom.
