Here’s What To Expect From The Upcoming Honda Activa 7G

Can this old dog learn new tricks to take on its rivals?

There are very few brands that change the way Indians look at products. Let me explain. Every Indian household might buy Maggi if they look for instant noodles, Fevicol if they need glue, Bisleri if they need packaged drinking water and Colgate for toothpaste. Well, the same way over the past two decades, the Honda Activa has been the preferred choice of scooter.

The Honda Activa is still running strong at 22 years old, the current iteration of the scooter, the 6G, does show signs of aging, especially against its much younger, feature-loaded rivals. Honda has teased a new version of the Activa, and here’s what we expect from this new scooter:

The biggest update we hope for the upcoming Activa would be a full digital display with Bluetooth connectivity, as this seems to have now become a norm across all sorts of two-wheelers. The TVS Jupiter and Hero Pleasure have been offering this feature in their ZX SmartXonnect and Xtec variants respectively, and it's only time that Honda played catch-up in this department.

The Honda Activa 6G did receive an upgrade in the form of 12-inch wheels; however, it missed out on alloy wheels and a front disc brake. The only scooter in this segment to offer a front disc brake is the Activa’s primary rival, the TVS Jupiter. Hence, Honda equipping the upcoming Activa with a set of alloy wheels along with front disc brakes, at least as an option, will help it compete better with the rivals.

See, it’s 2022 and we’re now a bit spoilt for choice. Hence, we wish the Activa was also equipped with more basic features like a cubby hole on the apron for a water bottle and a USB charger for better convenience.

For a scooter that’s two decades in service and meant to appeal to all members of a family, the engine has a zing to excite everyone. It also maintains a stress-free and frugal nature while scoring incredibly well on comfort and convenience, and that’s why we hope none of these aspects change on the new upcoming Activa 7G.
