It's an e-scooter that folds into a suitcase and also costs only as much as an iPhone 15 Pro

Have you ever looked at your suitcase while dragging it across the street and wondered “Life would be so much fun if I could just sit on it and ride it like a scooter?” Well, if that’s the case, then your wish has come true! Honda has launched the all-new Monocompacto, an e-scooter that can be folded into a compact suitcase, enabling one to carry it around wherever they go.

Based on the iconic Honda Motocompo of the 80s, the new Monocompacto is designed solely for urban mobility; for tackling the tight spaces in jam-packed city streets, riding around in your office campus, storing it in your workplace and riding on it to your house on the way back.

The Monocompacto is developed by Honda engineers in Ohio and California (USA) and has a sleek all-white body with a retro touch that makes it look straight out of old sci-fi movies! The overall aesthetic has a very nerdy and adorable vibe to it. The handlebar, footpegs, side stand, seat and rear wheel neatly fold into a compact carrying case, allowing the rider to carry it as a suitcase on public transportation or to any place within a short distance from their home.

With dimensions of 3.7 X 21.1 X 29.2 inches, it looks like the Monocompacto will be very portable to carry around size-wise. Although, with a weight of around 18.7kg, it may not be that easy to lug around.

Technicalities of the Motocompacto include a hub motor mounted on the front wheel with a 490W power output and a top speed of 24kmph. It has a battery capacity of 6.8Ah and has a range of 19.3km. It takes 3.5 hours to fully charge the battery and the charger can be stored in the compact storage space where the foldable elements are stored when it turns into a suitcase. The Monocompacto gets a digital speedometer and the e-scooter’s lighting and ride modes can be controlled by connecting it through an app via Bluetooth.

Before you get excited about riding around on a suitcase anytime, you should know that the Honda Monocompacto will not be coming to India. It will be available at Honda and Acura dealers in the USA for a price tag of USD 999. For reference, the all-new Apple iPhone 15 Pro’s prices also start at USD 999. So, which one would you pick: the new iPhone or a suitcase that’ll be your true travel companion in every sense? We know which one we’re picking….
