The XR 300 Rally and XR 300L could make flex-fuel adventure bikes a reality

We know that Honda is soon going to launch the ADV160 in India, and it will be the first scooter which will be E85 compatible, but what about their next one? We think it will most likely be the XR 300 range. But why? Because they get the same engine as the now-discontinued CB300F Flex Fuel bike, which we earlier got in India.

Honda recently unveiled the XR 300 Rally and XR 300L in India, confirming that both motorcycles will be manufactured locally and are expected to launch by the end of 2026. While Honda hasn't officially confirmed flex-fuel compatibility for either bike, the possibility certainly exists.

Why The XR 300 Twins Could Go Flex-Fuel

The reason is simple. Both the XR 300 Rally and XR 300L use the same 293.5cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine that powers the CB300F. The now-discontinued CB300F Flex Fuel was India's first 300cc E85-compatible motorcycle, producing 24.8 PS and 25.9 Nm while being capable of running on petrol blended with up to 85 percent ethanol. It even featured an Intelligent Ethanol Indicator that alerted riders if the ethanol content exceeded the supported limit.

Beyond the engine, the two motorcycles target different buyers. The XR 300 Rally (expected to be priced at Rs 2 lakh ex-showroom) is built as an affordable adventure tourer with rally-inspired styling, a tall windscreen, TFT console with smartphone connectivity, traction control, and a 21-/18-inch spoke wheel setup.

The XR 300L, meanwhile, adopts a simpler dual-sport approach. It skips the large fairing, TFT display and traction control in favour of a slimmer body, basic LCD console and lower expected price of around Rs 1.8 lakh (ex-showroom).

    BikeDekho Says

Honda hasn't announced flex-fuel compatibility for the XR 300 Rally and XR 300L yet, so this remains speculation. However, considering both bikes use the former CB300F Flex Fuel's engine and Honda is already bringing E85 technology to the ADV160, introducing flex-fuel versions of the XR 300 range would be a logical next step. If that happens, Honda could once again become the only manufacturer offering flex-fuel motorcycles in the affordable 300cc segment.
