Harley-Davidson has taken the wraps off its upcoming cruiser, the Sprint 440. Developed in partnership with Hero MotoCorp, the new motorcycle is aimed at riders looking for another accessible entry into the Harley-Davidson experience, other than the X440. The Sprint 440 gets a lightweight construction, a low seat height and a simple single-cylinder engine, while retaining the American manufacturer’s familiar cruiser styling. The Sprint 440 will be sold across global markets, with availability and launch timelines varying depending on the region.

    Design And Colours

The Sprint 440 carries a classic cruiser design, with a few familiar Harley-Davidson elements. It gets a round suspended headlamp, a sculpted fuel tank, a bobbed rear fender and a single-piece fastback-style seat. The overall silhouette is fairly compact, with a narrow profile that should also make it easier to handle in everyday riding conditions. Other design highlights include machined engine detailing, 10-spoke alloy wheels and a tapered exhaust muffler. The motorcycle will be offered in three colour options: Dark Billiard Gray, Vivid Black and Teal Thunder. All three shades get orange tank graphics with a checkered pattern and Harley-Davidson branding. There is also a new ‘Harley Hare’ character graphic on the side panels, representing the motorcycle’s focus on agility and fun.

    Engine And Performance

Powering the Sprint 440 is a 440 cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine producing 27 PS at 6,000 rpm and 38 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It gets a long-stroke setup, which is designed to deliver stronger low-end performance and make the motorcycle easier to ride in city traffic. The engine also features a single overhead camshaft, electronic fuel injection and a gear-driven counter-balancer to keep vibrations in check. The motor is paired to a 6-speed gearbox, with overdrive ratios in fifth and sixth gears for more relaxed highway cruising. It also gets an assist-and-slipper clutch, which should make gear shifts easier while reducing clutch lever effort. Harley-Davidson claims a combined fuel efficiency of up to 34 kmpl, while the fuel tank has a capacity of 9 litres which is quite low.

    Hardware And Underpinnings

The Sprint 440 gets a 43 mm inverted fork setup with 130 mm of travel, while the rear suspension consists of twin rear shocks with seven-step preload adjustment and 76 mm of wheel travel. It rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels, wrapped in 100-section front and 150-section rear tyres. Braking duties are handled by a 320 mm front disc with a twin-piston caliper and a 240 mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper. Dual-channel ABS is standard, adding an extra layer of safety during emergency braking. The motorcycle has a claimed kerb weight of 187 kg, while its seat height stands at 683 mm, making it accessible to a wider range of riders.

    Features And Technology

Despite its retro styling, the Sprint 440 gets a decent set of modern features. It comes with a 3.5-inch round TFT instrument console that displays essential riding information, including speed, engine rpm, odometer and trip details. The motorcycle also gets all-LED lighting and a USB Type-C charging port positioned above the headlamp.

    HD Sprint 440

The Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 is designed to make the brand’s motorcycles more approachable, especially for new riders and those looking to return to motorcycling. Its low seat height, relatively light construction and accessible engine performance should make it suitable for everyday use as well as occasional highway rides. The motorcycle has been developed and engineered by Harley-Davidson in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp. Its India launch timeline is still not known, but once launched, it will compete with bikes like the Honda Rebel 300, and Royal Enfield Meteor 350.
