- The KTM 390 Adventure R’s longer wheelbase, higher ground clearance, and taller seat height make it a more hardcore off-road machine. These numbers translate to excellent ability to tackle challenging terrain with confidence.
-
The BMW F 450 GS, while still a very capable ADV, takes a more balanced approach. Its lower seat height makes it more accessible for shorter riders. It is also lighter by 5kg, which improves manoeuvrability in both city and off-road conditions.
-
Fuel tank capacity is nearly identical, with the KTM having a slight edge. However, the BMW’s ergonomics are likely to feel more comfortable for long-distance touring due to its lighter kerb weight and shorter wheelbase.
-
In terms of design, the BMW follows the iconic GS styling with a tall stance and sharp design lines. The KTM, meanwhile, looks more aggressive and rally-inspired, clearly reflecting its off-road intent.
-
The Racing Blue Metallic finish on the BMW F 450 GS gives the bike a bold, high-energy look that immediately stands out. The rich blue paint forms the base of the colour scheme, while sharp white and red graphics are layered over it to create good contrast.
-
The Ceramic White colour scheme on the KTM 390 Adventure R gives the bike a clean yet aggressive look that stands out from typical darker ADV shades. The base white finish has a slightly matte, almost ceramic-like tone that feels modern and premium and this light colour is well contrasted by bold orange highlights which instantly tie it to KTM’s signature racing identity.

- The KTM 390 Adventure R is designed for serious off-road riding, allowing riders to tackle jumps, rocks, and uneven terrain with ease.
-
The BMW F 450 GS, while still being very capable, offers 180mm of travel at both ends. It also features adjustable suspension, but the overall travel is less than the KTM’s.
-
Adjustable suspension is a key advantage on both bikes. It allows riders to fine-tune the setup based on riding conditions.
-
Braking hardware is similar, but the KTM 390 Adventure R gets a slightly larger front disc. More importantly, both the BMW F 450 GS and the KTM 390 Adventure R get switchable ABS and off-road ABS modes, allowing the rear wheel to lock for better control on loose surfaces. Cornering ABS is another feature, which enhances safety during braking when the bike is leaned over.
-
Wheel sizes further highlight their differences. The KTM’s 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels are ideal for off-road riding, while the BMW’s 19-inch/17-inch setup offers a better balance between road and off-road use.
-
While both bikes are neck and neck in the suspension department, the KTM 390 Adventure R gets the slight edge with longer suspension travel and bigger wheel sizes. The BMW F 450 GS, however, offers a more versatile setup that works well across different riding conditions.

- Both bikes offer TFT displays, Bluetooth connectivity, USB charging, and full-LED lighting and get additional rider aids such as traction control and multiple ride modes.
-
Ride modes allow riders to adjust throttle response, traction control intervention, and ABS settings based on conditions such as rain, road, or off-road. This adds a layer of adaptability that can significantly enhance safety and performance.
-
Traction control helps prevent wheel spin, especially on slippery surfaces, while engine brake control manages how aggressively the engine slows the bike when the throttle is closed, particularly useful during off-road descents.
-
The BMW F 450 GS and the KTM 390 Adventure R have adjustable brake and clutch levers, which improve ergonomics and rider comfort.
-
A standout feature is BMW’s Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). This system reduces clutch effort, making the bike easier to ride in traffic and less tiring on long journeys. It also improves control at low speeds, which is crucial for off-road riding.
-
The KTM, while also feature-rich, focuses more on performance-oriented electronics. It is likely to offer a quickshifter, allowing clutchless upshifts and downshifts, which enhances riding dynamics. It also typically includes traction control and ride modes, along with switchable ABS.
-
Heated grips are standard on the BMW F 450 GS and can significantly improve comfort in colder conditions.
-
So, even though it is very hard to pick a winner in this category, the BMW F 450 GS gets the nod because of the heated grips and the Easy Ride Clutch.

User Reviews
It was my dream bike and it's so reliable and smooth. It has many features, like multiple riding mods and the trophy version has a ERC that means (easy riding clutch) it is very helpful to the beginners. The handling of the bike is very smooth and it gives around 20 to 24 milage on an average in highways and its seats are so much comfortable and it has a heating grips which helps me in early morning rides. I like to recommend this bike to the proper off-road bikers and they love this very much because of its handling and ERC you can also adjust the suspensions of both side and have a good off-road experience.
