- New-gen Bajaj Dominar 400’s engine was already BS6-ready.
- Hence, not many changes were required to make it run cleaner, which justifies the minor price hike.
- Expect deliveries to commence once the COVID-19 lockdown is lifted and the situation dials down.

The Bajaj Dominar 400 BS6 has been launched in India at Rs 1,91,751 (ex-showroom Delhi). This makes it just Rs 1,749 dearer than the BS4-compliant model. One of the reasons for such a minor price hike could be because the new-generation engine was already BS6-ready. Hence, only a few modifications might’ve been required to make it run cleaner.
Apart from the cleaner engine, the bike’s kerb weight has gone up by 3kg, at 187kg, kerb. The BS6-compliant 373.3cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engien produces 40PS at 8800rpm and 35Nm at 6500rpm.

Comparatively, the BS4-compliant version generates 40PS at 8650rpm and 35Nm at 7000rpm. The engine continues with the same 6-speed transmission, with a slipper clutch as before.
Bajaj has kept the underpinnings intact too. It retains the same 43mm inverted front fork and Nitrox rear monoshock. A 320mm disc with radial caliper and a 230mm rear disc bring the motorcycle to a halt. A dual-channel ABS is offered as standard. The 17-inch alloys are wrapped with 110-section front and 150-section rear tubeless radial tyres on both ends.

Since the price hike is minor, there wasn’t any need for Bajaj to compensate with additional features anyway. Moreover, the bike is already well-equipped with bits like a split LCD instrument cluster, which shows useful information such as gear position, real-time and average mileage as well as range, apart from the regular trove of data. It also features an all-LCD lighting system while the pillion seat gets loops to secure bungee cords -- something that will come in handy while touring.
While unofficial bookings commenced in February, expect deliveries to start once the lockdown due to coronavirus has been lifted and things are somewhat back to normal. It competes against the recently launched Jawa BS6 and the Royal Enfield Classic 350 BS6.
