A New 300cc Suzuki In The Works?

Suzuki recently filed a patent for what seems to be a 300cc sports bike for their 2019 lineup

Suzuki recently filed a patent for what seems to be a 300cc sports bike for their 2019 lineup

Almost all major manufacturers have something to offer in the 250cc segment, and so did Suzuki when they launched the GSX-R250 last year. Unfortunately it failed to keep up with its competition owing to the performance of the dated 250cc engine. Now, however, Suzuki intends to change its fate by introducing an all-new 300cc, performance-oriented motorcycle.

The Japanese company has already filed a patent for a new 300cc parallel-twin sports bike. With Suzuki already playing a big role in the smaller 150cc segment, an explosive little 300cc engine has the potential to wonders for the bike maker, especially in Asian and European markets. It’s a perfect setup for novice riders to hone their skills.

The detailed blueprint shows a new parallel-twin, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine mounted in between a tubular frame with the engine acting as a stressed member. Chances are that the motor shares some of its components with the sing-cylinder unit seen on the GSX-R150 sold abroad. We expect the twin-cylinder engine to churn out a respectable 40PS of power.

Other features include upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock. The mounting bracket suggests a radially mounted disc at the front and a single disc at the rear. The seating and clip-on ergonomics also seem to be more sports-oriented.

We expect to see both the GSX-R300 and GSX-S300 (naked roadster) to be launched together at the 2019 ECIMA. When launched, it will compete against the Yamaha R3, Ninja 300, Benelli 302R and the KTM RC 390.
