TVS Apache RTR Series: The Racing Heritage to the mainstream

A decade back, Indians were more focused on the commuter segment, now the scenario is changing and the people have started taking interest in the upper motorcycle segment. The success of Bajaj Pulsar Series and Royal Enfield clearly indicates the country is now ready for more than just commuters. One name that has also marked its impression in the Indian two-wheeler market and that name is TVS ApacheRTR Series.

TVS Motors launched the first Apache back in 2005, which marked the beginning of racing DNA in India. Since then the bike has undergone changes many times to make it significant enough to get noticed by buyers. The ‘RTR’ of the Apache stands for ‘Racing Throttle Response’. The first Apache came with a 150cc engine followed by a new 160cc mill. Presently available in 160 and 180cc engines, the company has also confirmed the launch of its more powerful version of its streetfighter, the Apache RTR200. Apache RTR200 has been spotted testing many times and will make its debut on 20th of January 2016. Known for their quality and race-inspired looks, the motorcycles have been upgraded many times as and when required to compete well in the market.

Making its debut in 2008, the new Apache RTR 160 hosts lot of useful features including factory fitted 200mm rear petal disc brake. Since its launch, the bike has been a runaway success thanks to its superior power and the performance it has derived from Racing Throttle Response. The introduction of rear petal disc brake improved the braking performance, thereby matching the aspirations of youth for fast, muscular, powerful machine having latest safety features.

Apache RTR was the company’s first premium commuter motorcycle delivering smooth performance, superior technology, and chiseled look, representing the company’s young, vibrant aggressive approach of creating innovative products.

  • Braking: 270mm Petal Disc at front and 200mm Petal Disc or 130mm Drum Brake at the rear

In 2009, TVS Motors unleashed its racing DNA with the launch of the Apache RTR 180. In 2011, the company introduced ABS in the Apache RTR 180, offering the motorcycle formidable stopping power and impressive braking control. The ABS version of RTR 180 is also equipped with RLP (Rear Wheel Lift-off Protection) system that helps the bike during emergency braking situations and takes over control, with no loss of stopping distance.

TVS Apache RTR 200

After much speculations about its launch date, TVS has finally confirmed the launch of its most powerful motorcycle of Apache Series - The TVS Apache RTR 200. Spotted testing many times, the bike will make its debut on 20th of January this year. This new beast from the TVS family will be manufactured at the company’s Hosur facility and will compete against KTM 200. Going at by the spy images, the bike is expected to feature white LED pilot lamps, which has been designed to look like the devil’s horns. The instrument console of the motorcycle boasts white backlight and displays multiple information such as time, gear position, fuel meter and service reminder. Similar to its younger sibling, the bike will retain its exhaust note with a uniquely designed muffler. The bike is expected to be priced under Rs. 1lac.

  • Power Delivery: 25.6bhp of power and 22Nm of torque

Thanks to its unmatched performance, superior engine technology and chiseled looks, the TVS Apache RTR series has been ruling hearts of Indian motorcycle enthusiasts. Finally, KTM Duke 200 has got something to be worried about.
