The supermoto like styling makes the bike look quite rugged
The Zero FXE electric bike has been spotted in India recently, with the bike being spied testing around Bengaluru, Karnataka. A bike being tested usually means it could be coming to the Indian market, but in this case we don’t think that could happen. Here’s why we think so.
Zero currently manufactures premium performance electric motorcycles, and the FXE is a supermoto style electric bike. It has a typical supermoto like design, combined with sharp bodywork and an overall sleek profile.
The bike is powered by a 7.2kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of around 168km. It runs on a 34kW or 46PS motor, which produces a peak torque output of 106Nm. The motor gives the bike a claimed top speed of 136kmph.
In terms of underpinnings, the Zero FXE is suspended on a 41mm Showa inverted fork and a 40mm Showa monoshock. The bike rolls on 17-inch alloys at both ends with a 110-section front and 140-section rear Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres. Braking duties are handled by a 320mm front and 240mm rear disc with Bosh dual-channel ABS.
Currently the Zero FXE sells in the US at an insane price of 12,495 USD, which comes to around Rs 10,49,092. The high pricing and the overall premium nature of the bike means it is unlikely to be launched in India, as the market for such products is very small. With the partnership with Hero, we believe the brand is just testing existing Zero bikes in Indian riding conditions to get more data and use it to develop India specific EVs in the near future.
This will help Hero compete with up and coming players in the electric bike segment such as Ola Electric, which recently launched their first electric motorcycle platform, the Ola Roadster series. Along with other brands like Revolt and Tork.
